USA – Eastman, a specialty materials company, has partnered with Icons ICS to introduce a groundbreaking mono-material cosmetic compact with the aim of pushing the boundaries of eco-friendly packaging.
The eco-friendly packaging is the result of a co-innovation initiative between the partners and demonstrates their dedication to sustainable packaging solutions.
According to Eastman, the mono-material compact is made entirely from Eastman Cristal One Renew, which is a RIC1 resin with 100% certified recycled content.
The sustainable packaging does not include traditional metal hinges and pins, which improves recyclability.
The refillable design helps reduce waste and allows consumers to easily replenish their cosmetic products.
Eastman’s Global Cosmetics and Personal Care Packaging Manager, Tara Cary, said, “We are excited to have collaborated with ICONS|ICS on this innovative project.
“The integration of design and materials expertise allowed us to create a game-changing solution that addresses the growing consumer demand for recycled content and recyclability in packaging in a refillable application they can reuse again and again.”
The company showcased the compact at LUXE PACK Monaco and received a nomination for the Green Awards in the eco-conceived packaging category.
Meanwhile, ICONS|ICS is a division of ICONS Beauty Group that specializes in primary packaging, product design, and cosmetic and skincare packaging for pharmaceutical clients.
ICONS|ICS Technical and Design Director, Dave Thompson, said, “The collaboration with Eastman aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing sustainable packaging solutions to the cosmetics industry.” “Together, we are driving innovation by showing the world what is possible in terms of eco-friendly packaging.”
This collaboration highlights Eastman’s commitment to sustainability. In September, the company was recognized as part of Fortune’s “Change the World” list, which highlights companies that embrace corporate purpose and recognize how it can add value to both business and society.
The list recognizes companies that have made a positive social impact through activities that are integral to their core business strategy.
Fortune evaluates companies based on their measurable social impact, business results, and degree of innovation. The list is dedicated to the idea that business is uniquely suited to addressing society’s most significant challenges.
“At Eastman, we believe that there are always solutions to the challenges the world faces,” said Mark Costa, Eastman’s board chair and CEO.
“Eastman’s strategy is focused on leading principles where our purpose, leadership and actions continue to guide us toward carbon neutrality, circularity, and social responsibility.
“Our teams have been working incredibly hard on these challenging issues, and we are honored to be named by Fortune for this prestigious recognition.”
Eastman was ranked number 17 as a “recycling revitalizer” out of 59 companies recognized on this year’s list of honorees.
