This collaboration marks the beginning of a strategic partnership focused on unlocking the value of plastic waste

USA – Freepoint Eco-Systems International and Source One GmbH have unveiled a long-term collaboration to revolutionize plastic waste recycling across Europe by developing advanced pretreatment facilities.
This strategic alliance aims to bolster the region’s pyrolysis infrastructure, transforming post-consumer plastic waste into valuable resources for a sustainable future.
According to the agreement, Freepoint Eco-Systems will establish a network of cutting-edge pretreatment plants in key European markets, with Source One serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.
These facilities are designed to convert complex waste streams, such as mixed plastic packaging and flexible films, into high-quality feedstock suitable for both pyrolysis and mechanical recycling.
Source One’s innovative pretreatment technology, already proven in commercial-scale operations, minimizes energy consumption while meeting stringent regulatory standards.
In a statement, Source One founder and CEO Kai Hoyer emphasized the partnership’s impact:
“Together, we’re advancing the circular economy by leveraging cutting-edge recycling technologies and accelerating the high-quality recovery and reuse of plastics.”
This collaboration aligns with Europe’s ambitious sustainability goals, including the Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan, and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which mandate increased use of recycled content in packaging.
Freepoint Eco-Systems’ Recycling Europe Chief Commercial Officer, Jacco de Haas, highlighted the partnership’s potential:
“This collaboration marks the beginning of a strategic partnership focused on unlocking the value of plastic waste,” he said.
“By combining our feedstock strategy with Source One’s best-in-class pretreatment platform, we are building critical infrastructure that enables pyrolysis to scale commercially and competitively.”
The initiative supports Freepoint Eco-Systems’ broader vision to become a leading supplier of recycled feedstock in Europe, feeding its own pyrolysis plants and supporting upcycling efforts across the continent.
The facilities will address a critical bottleneck in the plastic value chain, enabling responsible resource use and reducing environmental impact.
Adding to its sustainability efforts, Freepoint Eco-Systems recently announced a partnership with Renewi in July 2024 to develop sorting and treatment infrastructure in Ghent, Belgium.
The collaboration aimed to supply 80,000 tonnes of feedstock for Freepoint’s first European advanced recycling facility, further diverting end-of-life plastics from incineration and landfills.
