The facility will produce up to 10 categories of aluminium foil products for the packaging, pharmaceutical, food service and industrial sectors.

GHANA – GIADEC has signed a €300 million (US$321 million) agreement with Danieli to build an aluminium foil rolling mill in Tema, producing 40,000-45,000 tonnes annually for packaging, pharmaceuticals and industrial sectors.
The Memorandum of Understanding, signed at the residence of the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, marks a significant step in Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda under President John Dramani Mahama.
The project will be located within the Tema Integrated Industrial Park, developed by ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms in partnership with GIADEC and Tema Development Corporation.
Proximity to Volta Aluminium Company’s smelting capacity, Tema Port and existing industrial infrastructure provides strategic advantages for export-oriented manufacturing.
How 40,000-45,000 Tonne Annual Output Serves Packaging and Pharmaceutical Sectors
The facility will produce up to 10 categories of aluminium foil products for the packaging, pharmaceutical, food service and industrial sectors.
The investment, valued at approximately €300 million (US$321 million), includes a Centre of Excellence dedicated to training, innovation and technology transfer in advanced aluminium processing, which is expected to serve as a regional hub for skills development in West Africa. Ghana holds an estimated 900 million tonnes of bauxite reserves but only has a single operating mine.
The project supports the country’s plan to reduce raw ore exports and capture more value from mineral resources.
Why Tema Integrated Industrial Park and VALCO Linkages Drive Regional Aluminium Manufacturing
GIADEC CEO Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah stated that the partnership signals a strategic shift toward building a fully integrated aluminium value chain in Ghana, positioning the country as an emerging hub for advanced aluminium manufacturing in West Africa.
Danieli representative Danilo Dreolini described the project as a critical opportunity for Ghana to convert natural resources into high-value manufactured exports.
The project is expected to create direct and indirect employment, stimulate upstream and downstream industrial clusters, and generate foreign exchange earnings through value-added exports.
The aluminium foil plant aligns with Ghana’s broader plan to establish an integrated aluminium industry from bauxite mining to finished products.
GIADEC continues to partner with credible global firms to strengthen Ghana’s industrial capacity and investor confidence in the manufacturing sector.
