The company is working with hotels, businesses, and small-scale collectors to establish a consistent PET collection network across Oman.

OMAN – Green Muscat Sustainability Solutions has launched a PET waste recycling facility at Al Rusayl Industrial City, currently processing 15 tonnes of post-consumer PET waste daily, with plans to scale to 10,000 metric tonnes of recyclable waste annually by the end of 2027.
The Omani-British venture processes caps and labels made from polypropylene and polyethylene, which are separated during recycling.
Yasha Vassell, CEO of Green Muscat, explained that the company’s vision is to transform waste into a strategic asset for the national economy.
Building a Collection Network
The company is working with hotels, businesses, and small-scale collectors to establish a consistent PET collection network across Oman.
Ceyhan Iltas, Chief Marketing Officer, noted that collaboration with hospitality operators has already delivered measurable results, reducing recyclable waste sent to landfill from these hotels by over 80%, with more than 170 tonnes of recyclable materials collected and a segregation rate exceeding 90%.
To strengthen local capacity, the company has established a network of 43 small collectors across the country.
The Scale of the Challenge
Despite these developments, initiatives such as Green Muscat’s currently account for less than 2% of total PET waste generated in Oman, with the majority still ending up in landfill.
The company said scaling collection, segregation, and processing infrastructure will be critical to unlocking the full value of recyclable materials.
Secondary materials such as caps and labels made from PP and PE are currently being stored, with plans to convert them into value-added products for the agricultural sector once new processing equipment is commissioned.
Oman’s Circular Economy Ambitions
Oman has been steadily building its waste management infrastructure as part of Vision 2040, which targets resource efficiency and reduced landfill dependency.
PET bottles represent a high-value recyclable stream because the material can be processed into food-grade rPET for new bottles, reducing reliance on imported virgin resin.
Green Muscat’s facility is one of several recent investments in Oman’s recycling sector, following a 288% surge in aluminium scrap recycling volumes in 2025.
When 15 Tonnes Is a Start
Fifteen tonnes per day is 15 tonnes not landfilled. But 15 tonnes is also less than 2% of Oman’s total PET waste.
Green Muscat’s facility is a proof point, not a solution. The next phase, scaling collection, onboarding more hotels, and converting caps into agricultural products, will determine whether 2% becomes 20.
