The collaboration supports Türkiye’s emergence as a reliable producer of high-quality blood collection tubes, strengthening local supply chains while establishing a foundation for continued innovation and market expansion.

TÜRKIYE – Husky Technologies has collaborated with SEM Plastik’s SEM BIOTECH division to deploy the ICHOR integrated medical system for blood collection tube manufacturing in Türkiye, with an annual production capacity of 500 million tubes in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment, marking the company’s entry into medical device manufacturing.
The official opening ceremony was held on April 16, 2026, with the participation of Türkiye’s Minister of Industry and Technology.
Established in 1983 and headquartered in Istanbul, SEM Plastik has a strong legacy as one of Türkiye’s pioneers in sustainable packaging before diversifying into advanced medical manufacturing.
From Packaging to Precision Medical
SEM Plastik’s diversification into medical manufacturing required a trusted supplier and proven technology platform.
Yavuz Eroğlu, SEM Plastik’s Owner-Chairman and President of PAGEV (Turkish Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association), explained that the company is proud to serve the region with best-in-class blood collection tubes, and Husky’s support as an early adopter partner was essential in turning this ambition into a successful and sustainable operation.
The Vacusem tubes are fully automatically manufactured under the highest hygiene standards, using best-in-class chemical formulations and components.
Technology That Enables Speed
Thomas Bontempi, Husky’s General Manager Medical Business, explained that the ICHOR system is the fastest platform solution to produce blood collection tubes on the market.
By combining speed, precision, and full system integration, Husky is helping SEM Plastik establish a world-class medical production platform in Türkiye.
The system features integrated robots, auxiliaries, a unified HMI, and advanced hot runner technology, delivering reduced cycle times, improved efficiency, full traceability, and process stability to support compliance with stringent international medical standards.
Strategic Impact for Türkiye
The collaboration supports Türkiye’s emergence as a reliable producer of high-quality blood collection tubes, strengthening local supply chains while establishing a foundation for continued innovation and market expansion.
The production is designed to meet European Union market standards, with a strong focus on export-oriented growth. This investment contributes to Türkiye’s high value-added and high-technology exports.
When Packaging Expertise Meets Medical Precision
A company that built its reputation on sustainable packaging is now manufacturing 500 million blood collection tubes annually.
The leap from plastic caps to medical devices requires precision, cleanroom environments, and regulatory rigor that consumer packaging does not demand.
SEM Plastik’s partnership with Husky proves that packaging expertise can transfer to medical manufacturing, but only with the right technology and the right partner.
