EUROPE – Jindal Films Europe (JFE), a leader in flexible packaging and part of the USD 2.5 billion B.C. Jindal Group, has announced plans to introduce 5-10 new sustainable film innovations each year.
This initiative reflects JFE’s commitment to advancing eco-friendly solutions across the flexible packaging industry, benefiting both brands and consumers as they prioritize sustainability.
JFE’s approach encompasses product innovation, active involvement in industry recycling programs, and the incorporation of recycled and renewable materials.
Recognizing a growing demand for environmentally friendly options, JFE has invested heavily in R&D and advanced manufacturing to create recyclable films that minimize environmental impact without compromising quality.
Highlighting this mission, JFE CEO Manfred Kaufmann commented, “At JFE, we are not merely responding to the sustainability challenge; we are actively shaping the future of flexible packaging. Our collaboration with customers allows us to design films that meet ambitious sustainability goals.”
JFE’s portfolio includes multi-layer films ranging from 12 to 70 microns in transparent, white, metalized, coated, and uncoated varieties.
The company’s innovations in biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films have led to mono-PP recyclable structures, including ultra-high barrier metalized films that serve as eco-friendly alternatives to aluminum foil.
JFE has also introduced Alox (transparent oxidized aluminum) barrier films, which offer high barrier protection while allowing product visibility, as well as heat-resistant films that enable the use of thinner materials in printing and sealing processes.
In a major advancement, JFE has launched a bi-oriented polyethylene (BOPE) platform, marketed under the Ethy-Lyte trademark, designed to replace PET films in lamination with PE sealants.
This platform facilitates mono-PE recyclable structures, with new barrier films continuously added to the Ethy-Lyte range for duplex and triplex mono-PE applications.
JFE is also committed to reducing its carbon footprint through several initiatives such as producing thinner BOPP and BOPE films for enhanced carbon efficiency, implementing energy-efficient practices and reducing waste, installing a solar power plant at its main manufacturing site in Brindisi, Italy, and utilizing recycled and bio-based resins to lower the use of virgin materials.
“Our sustainability commitment extends beyond products,” a JFE spokesperson said. “From energy efficiency to renewable power sources, we’re focused on creating a more sustainable manufacturing process for the entire industry.”
Aligned with the packaging industry’s shift towards a circular economy, JFE is an active member of CEFLEX, a European consortium promoting recyclable packaging solutions.
JFE’s focus on BOPP and BOPE films supports the creation of mono-material packaging structures that are fully recyclable and designed to replace materials like aluminum foil or PET in high-barrier applications.
JFE has also introduced the Re Range, a line of products incorporating bio-based PP resins and recycled materials.
This includes chemically recycled post-consumer films, reducing reliance on virgin resins and promoting circularity.
Through continuous innovation, customer collaboration, and a strong environmental focus, JFE is leading the flexible packaging industry toward a sustainable future.
