KENYA – The UN Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK), the local chapter of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, has appointed Mary-Ann Musangi as a new board member in a move that strengthens its leadership team as it continues to drive responsible business practices across the country.

Mary-Ann, a respected sustainability advocate with years of experience in advancing environmental and social impact initiatives, expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity, calling the appointment both “a responsibility and a privilege.”

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to have been appointed to the Board of the UN Global Compact Network Kenya, a platform that stands at the forefront of advancing responsible business practices and accelerating progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” she stated.

“This role comes at a time when the private sector is being called to reimagine its role—not just as a driver of profit, but as a steward of people and the planet.”

The UN Global Compact Network Kenya has played a critical role in guiding Kenyan businesses toward sustainability through training, advocacy, and the promotion of principles in human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption.

The organization has also worked to align the efforts of local businesses with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Kenya has seen increased corporate engagement in sustainability, with the GCNK supporting initiatives such as the Africa Business Leaders Coalition (ABLC) and the annual SDG Pioneer Awards, which recognize individuals making exceptional contributions to the advancement of the SDGs through their companies.

The latest board appointment is seen as part of a broader strategy to deepen stakeholder engagement and scale up action within the private sector.

Ms Musangi emphasized the importance of collaboration, “I look forward to working alongside fellow board members and sustainability champions to deepen engagement with Kenyan businesses, build bold partnerships, and help shape a future where responsible business is the norm, not the exception.”

The appointment is expected to bring fresh energy and strategic insight to the board as it continues to guide Kenya’s business community through an era of rapid transformation.

She also underscored their commitment to inclusive leadership and sustainable growth, stating, “Here’s to purpose-driven leadership, shared prosperity, and leaving no one behind. Together, let’s keep building better.”

With this addition to its board, the UN Global Compact Network Kenya reinforces its position as a catalyst for ethical, sustainable, and inclusive business practices across the region.
