The facility will consume 200 tonnes of paper scrap daily, transforming waste into reusable packaging material.

INDIA – Bihar has inaugurated its first sustainable paper manufacturing facility, Saha and Bright Paper Private Limited, in Rukunpura, Patna, India.
The plant was inaugurated by Bihar’s Industry Minister Nitish Mishra, who hailed the milestone as a “historic day” for the state’s industrial progress.
The newly launched unit represents a significant leap in green manufacturing. Designed to produce high-quality multi-layer kraft paper, the facility will consume 200 tonnes of paper scrap daily, transforming waste into reusable packaging material.
This initiative is expected to drastically reduce paper waste and contribute to better environmental management practices in the region.
“This is the first time Bihar is witnessing a paper mill of this scale based entirely on eco-friendly technologies,” Mishra said during the inauguration ceremony.
“It will not only strengthen the local economy but also encourage more sustainable industrial practices across the state.”
The facility is projected to provide direct employment to 150 people and indirectly support around 5,000 jobs, underscoring its potential to uplift local livelihoods while promoting circular economy principles.
The plant is the brainchild of entrepreneurs Rajeev Kumar, Manish Kumar, and Vikas Kumar, who founded the company in 1998.
Over decades, the founders have worked towards building a vision that blends industrial excellence with environmental stewardship. The Rukunpura unit is the culmination of these efforts.
To further emphasize the state’s push for eco-friendly industrialization, the minister also toured a napkin and thermocol manufacturing unit in Mohammadpur, Fatuha, lauding the state’s steady industrial growth.
These developments come at a time when states across India are making targeted efforts to attract sustainable investments in manufacturing.
Similar sustainable manufacturing efforts have been seen in other parts of India. In Maharashtra, for example, Yash Pakka Ltd. has gained recognition for producing compostable paper packaging using sugarcane waste.
Likewise, Tamil Nadu’s Seshasayee Paper and Boards has integrated wastewater recycling systems into its paper production process, setting benchmarks in resource conservation.
With Bihar’s first green paper mill now operational, the state joins this growing movement of environmentally conscious industrialization.
Saha and Bright Paper’s launch could pave the way for more such ventures, offering a compelling model for combining economic growth with sustainable innovation.
