Movopack secures US$2.54M investment to revolutionize circular e-commerce packaging

UK – Movopack, a sustainability-focused packaging company, has raised £2 million (US$2.54 million) in seed funding led by early-stage investor 360 Capital.

This funding will accelerate the company’s official launch in the UK, marking its first expansion outside Italy and positioning it to tackle e-commerce packaging waste more effectively.

The timing is critical as new EU regulations mandate that 10% of e-commerce packaging must be reusable by 2030, increasing to 50% by 2040.

Movopack aims to help retailers meet these ambitious targets through cost-effective, circular packaging solutions.

The UK expansion is a significant milestone, aligning with British retailers’ and consumers’ growing environmental awareness.

Movopack’s partnership with the Royal Mail allows customers to return packaging using any of the 115,000 post boxes across the UK, ensuring convenience and broad access.

Movopack’s founders—Tomaso Torriani (CEO), Alberto Cisco (CCO), and Andrea Cipollone (COO)—recognized the environmental impact of single-use e-commerce packaging and sought to develop practical, affordable alternatives.

Their solution involves packaging made from recycled plastic bottles (rPET) and woven recycled polypropylene (PP), designed to withstand postal handling and be reused up to 20 times.

CEO Tomaso Torriani emphasized the significance of the funding, “This investment reflects the growing enthusiasm for sustainable, circular solutions in e-commerce.

“Launching in the UK comes when demand for eco-friendly options is at an all-time high. Our mission is to make sustainability the norm, not the exception, in e-commerce.”

A strategic investment in sustainability

Lucrezia Lucotti, partner at 360 Capital, highlighted the importance of Movopack’s mission, “Sustainable packaging in e-commerce has gained traction, but challenges remain, including fragmentation and limited digital integration.

“Movopack’s innovative, returnable packaging model addresses these gaps. We believe Movopack is well-positioned to lead the shift towards more sustainable practices, and we’re proud to support their vision.”

As Movopack expands its reach, it aims to set a new standard for sustainable packaging in the e-commerce sector, driving environmental and economic benefits for businesses and consumers alike.

In another collaboration, Movopack recently worked with the children’s clothing brand Brave Kid to deliver online orders in reusable packaging and potentially lower CO2 emissions by 75%.

The new solution, customized with the tagline “Be a BRAVE KID too! Send back the packaging,” hopes to encourage sustainability-minded behaviour in young consumers.
