SOUTH AFRICA – Mpact Waste Management, a leading player in South Africa’s waste and recycling sector, has announced a strategic partnership with Zeda Limited.
This integrated mobility solutions provider operates the Avis car rental brand in Southern Africa.
The collaboration aims to implement measurable waste diversion and materials management systems at selected operational sites nationwide, marking a significant step toward embedding circular economy principles in corporate operations.
The partnership combines Mpact Waste Management’s infrastructure, waste audits, and real-time tracking systems with Zeda Limited’s long-standing sustainability agenda.
Tailored waste separation infrastructure will be installed at branches, backed by robust collection systems, secure document destruction services to ensure POPIA compliance, and data dashboards that provide transparent reporting of environmental performance.
“This is not a symbolic gesture, it is a fully integrated, performance-driven programme,” said Jermaine Rajah, National Sales and Relationship Manager at Mpact Waste Management.
“Our role is to support Zeda Limited in reducing waste-to-landfill volumes and to give them robust reporting dashboards so they can track and communicate their progress with confidence.”
Closing the loop on waste
For Zeda, the initiative builds on over a decade of sustainability investments. Since 2013, the company has already diverted over 333,000 recyclable items from landfill at its key branches.
With Mpact Waste Management’s involvement, these efforts will now scale significantly, moving from fragmented initiatives to a formalized system aligned with circular economy practices.
“We have invested heavily in water-saving infrastructure and carbon reduction for some time now,” said Mary Thipe, Senior Manager of Sustainability and Safety at Zeda Limited.
“Working with Mpact Waste Management allows us to close the loop on waste and ensure our sustainability efforts are both measurable and meaningful.”
Zeda’s environmental roadmap also includes the adoption of 339 hybrid and 134 electric vehicles in its leasing fleet, alongside the installation of water recycling systems at major depots.
The new waste partnership strengthens the company’s ESG strategy and supports its target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.
For Mpact Waste Management, the collaboration underscores its positioning as a partner of choice for corporates navigating evolving waste legislation and public pressure to demonstrate environmental responsibility.
“Our model is scalable and proven,” concluded Rajah. “The future is circular, and it is being built today.”
