Spanning 43,000m², the new facility will initially employ 130 workers.
INDIA – Oji India Packaging, a division of Japan’s Oji Group, has inaugurated its fifth manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
This state-of-the-art plant is the largest of its kind in South Asia, focusing on the production of high-quality, eco-friendly corrugated boxes and packaging materials to meet the growing market demand.
Spanning 43,000m², the new facility will initially employ 130 workers, with plans to expand to a workforce of 300 as operations scale up.
The plant’s launch reinforces Oji’s commitment to sustainability and innovation while strengthening its presence in India’s industrial sector.
The opening ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Oji Holdings president and CEO Hiroyuki Isono, Japan’s Consul General Muneo Takahashi, and Sri City founder and managing director Ravindra Sannareddy.
Sannareddy praised Oji India for selecting Sri City as its base, highlighting the company as the 31st Japanese enterprise to establish operations in the Sri City Special Economic Zone.
Hiroyuki Isono emphasized that the facility represents a crucial step in Oji Group’s mission to enhance sustainable packaging solutions while contributing to economic growth in the region.
He also underscored Sri City’s growing importance as India’s second-largest Japanese township, further solidifying Indo-Japanese business relations.
Oji India has established a strong presence across the country, with existing manufacturing plants in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.
The Sri City facility strategically complements the company’s existing infrastructure, enabling it to serve a broader range of industries with sustainable and durable packaging solutions.
Partnership with Shirako
Oji Group’s expansion follows its strategic partnership with Japanese food company Shirako in February last year.
Shirako selected Oji Group’s paper-based solutions for its ‘Sumapura’ seaweed packaging, a move aimed at reducing plastic waste in the food industry.
This collaboration underscores Oji’s commitment to developing sustainable and biodegradable packaging materials, aligning with global efforts to minimize environmental impact.
The adoption of Oji’s paper packaging for seaweed products marks a significant shift in food packaging trends, demonstrating how eco-friendly materials can replace traditional plastic solutions.
This partnership not only strengthens Oji’s reputation in sustainable packaging but also opens new avenues for its paper-based innovations in the global food sector.
With the launch of the Sri City facility and its continued partnerships in sustainable packaging, Oji Group is poised for significant growth in India and beyond.
Its strategic investments reinforce its long-term vision of delivering environmentally responsible packaging solutions while supporting industrial development in key global markets.
