The deal covers only the thermal and cold-chain packaging division; MP Global’s flooring underlayment and construction materials businesses will stay family-owned.

USA – Chicago-based Pregis has acquired MP Global Packaging, the paper-based thermal packaging division of Norfolk-based MP Global Products, in a deal that includes manufacturing facilities in Norfolk, Nebraska, and New Albany, Indiana, employing around 110 people.
The acquisition, announced in early August 2026, strengthens Pregis’ fiber-based packaging portfolio and expands its presence in the temperature-sensitive shipping market.
The transaction covers only the thermal and cold-chain packaging division, while MP Global Products’ flooring underlayment and construction materials businesses will remain family-owned.
Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
Thermal Paper Technology and Sustainability Focus
The acquired business produces paper-based thermal packaging made from macerated cardboard that provides insulating properties for temperature-sensitive shipments.
The packaging is designed for curbside recycling where collection systems exist, aligning with growing demand for sustainable cold chain solutions.
Pregis chairman and CEO Kevin Baudhuin stated that sustainable, fiber-based materials are an increasingly important part of the company’s portfolio, and cold chain packaging is a natural extension of that strategy.
Leadership and Operational Continuity
Reid Borgman, who led the MP Global Packaging division, will join Pregis as Vice President and General Manager of Cold Chain, continuing to lead the operation.
The business will continue to operate from its current facilities, with Pregis committed to working closely with employees, customers and suppliers throughout the transition.
The acquisition mirrors Pregis’ successful expansion of its EverTec paper mailer technology, which was acquired in 2020 and scaled into a business producing more than one billion mailers annually.
Pregis plans to apply the same investment-led, growth-oriented approach to scale its cold chain platform and support customers in achieving their sustainability goals.
