ProAmpac partners with ScottsMiracle-Gro to advance recyclable packaging technology

USA – Flexible packaging leader ProAmpac has partnered with ScottsMiracle-Gro to introduce a recyclable packaging solution for O.M. Scott & Sons, a trusted name in garden care products.

The collaboration has resulted in the launch of ProAmpac’s PRO-EVO Recyclable SOS Bags, designed to replace traditional multilayer plastic films with fibre-based, kerbside-recyclable alternatives.

This innovative solution aligns with growing consumer demand for eco-conscious packaging without compromising product durability or protection.

Historically, products like natural grass seed, clover seed, and lawn food have relied on multilayer plastic packaging—materials that are difficult to recycle.

The shift to fibre-based packaging by O.M. Scott & Sons signals a significant move towards sustainability in the garden care sector.

Ray Severa, packaging engineer at ScottsMiracle-Gro, praised the transition, “The switch to PRO-EVO Recyclable Bags has been smooth and successful.

“These bags perform well in our production process, deliver the durability we need, and reflect our commitment to environmentally responsible packaging.”

ProAmpac’s global senior vice-president of product development and innovation, Hesam Tabatabaei, added, “ScottsMiracle-Gro needed a solution that offered both product protection and sustainability.

“Our PRO-EVO SOS Bags provide enhanced moisture resistance and durability, along with strong shelf appeal—key attributes for lawn care brands.”

Expanding innovations in dairy packaging

The announcement follows ProAmpac’s recent expansion in the dairy sector, where the company introduced advanced butter wrap solutions.

These include Butter Fresh Parchment, a wax-free and PFAS-free wrap designed with compostability in mind.

It delivers excellent grease resistance, making it a sustainable yet high-performing solution for packaging butter and other fat-based products.

The absence of wax and harmful chemicals ensures it meets growing consumer and regulatory demands for safer, eco-friendly materials.

Also introduced is a foil-paper composite wrap, engineered to provide superior protection against grease and UV exposure.

This wrap features an embossing design that not only improves its visual appeal but also enhances processing efficiency.

Its improved dead-fold performance ensures a tight, secure wrap during high-speed production, making it ideal for fast-paced dairy manufacturing environments.

Both wraps are formulated to preserve product integrity by limiting air exposure and grease seepage. Their robust design prevents delamination and curling—making them ideal for high-speed processing environments.
