UK – Ravenwood Packaging, a leader in pack verification, has partnered with QUOR, a front-runner in quality management systems, to deliver cutting-edge integrated label inspection technology.
This collaboration combines Ravenwood’s Vision system with QUOR’s paperless factory reporting solution, providing brand owners and retailers with unmatched confidence in the accuracy and quality of food labeling.
QUOR’s paperless quality management system digitizes all operational data, enabling seamless collaboration with the Ravenwood Vision system.
The Vision system checks for correct labels, orientation, and positioning, while also analyzing printed data such as use-by dates, barcodes (including 2D), and flash labels.
With top and bottom cameras for comprehensive pack and label inspections, these in-line checks are performed without interruptions, a notable improvement over other widely used solutions.
Non-conforming packs are automatically rejected into a lockable reject bin, with reject verification provided as standard.
Peter Jeanes, QUOR’s Managing Director, remarked, “The integration of QUOR with Ravenwood’s automated in-line label verification and X-ray equipment is a significant advancement for the industry.
“This combination ensures total control of any retail packing line, eliminating label errors and removing the possibility of human error.”
QUOR’s automated data capture maximizes Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), offering total control and visibility of the Vision system’s analytics. This approach eliminates human error, ensuring safety and enabling swift, informed decision-making.
The system benchmarks product and scheduling data against established criteria for label accuracy, pack speeds, and OEE standards.
The collected data is processed and stored locally or in a cloud-based reporting system, allowing easy access and export.
Reports cover the full range of the Vision system’s functionalities, including pack speeds, stoppages, labeling errors, and faulty pack images. QUOR’s software can be accessed via a user interface on an iPad, tablet, or PC.
Peter added, “This combination allows for fully integrated label control systems from intake through internal label rooms and onto the production line, all verified against the production plan and validated against product specifications. No other solution offers such a robust and complete package.”
A paperless approach offers factories significant operational benefits while supporting environmental and organizational goals.
To promote environmental sustainability, many supermarket retailers are transitioning to paperless processes in their factories and supply chains.
Traditional paper reports are becoming increasingly obsolete due to their time-consuming and error-prone nature compared to digital entry.
Going paperless also reduces costs and minimizes the environmental impact of paper production and disposal, aligning with sustainability goals.
According to the Food Standards Agency, 1,837 food safety incidents were reported in 2023/24, with 92 attributed to faulty label information (reported in June 2024).
As the food safety landscape evolves, brand owners and retailers are prioritizing improvements in packaging inspection and quality management systems.
Integrating Ravenwood’s Vision system with QUOR’s quality management system is emerging as a highly effective solution for label verification and reporting.
