Sealed Air flexible packaging range certified by Vegan Society

US – Sealed Air has become the first producer of certified vegan-compliant flexible packaging after receiving The Vegan Trademark for its Cryovac brand

The Vegan Trademark is the authentic international vegan standard and is managed by The Vegan Society; the charity that created the word ‘vegan’ back in 1944.

The Vegan Trademark is renewed yearly to ensure we have the most up-to-date information on all the products that are certified.

The Vegan Trademark “is instantly recognizable for consumers, and its award will help to engage shoppers in the fast-growing vegan market,” reiterates Matt Baldock, business development, retail, and sustainability leader for North-West Europe, Benelux and South Africa at Sealed Air.

The company boasts that it has become “the first producer of certified vegan-compliant flexible packaging after receiving The Vegan Trademark.”

The product achieved the same by replacing animal derivatives in the food packaging with non-animal fats and hydrocarbon waxes.

Sealed Air describes the Cryovac brand range as an answer to consumer concerns about environmental impact, carbon emissions, and animal welfare, providing retailers and processors with a packaging solution “fit for the plant-based revolution.”

In addition to meeting the checks by The Vegan Society, the vegan-compliant packaging solutions offered by Cryovac Sealappeal mono-PET high barrier films “guarantee product shelf life up to 12 months.”

It also helps minimize waste and improve product sustainability by extending shelf life. The material can be recycled in PET recycling streams, thereby aiding in the reduction of environmental impact.

Aldo Galbusera, Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) marketing manager for Sealed Air noted that the vegan-compliant range of Cryovac brand Sealappeal products deliver the same performance features and benefits that food businesses expect of the brand and remain compatible with automated packaging lines offered by Sealed Air and its equipment partners.

The innovative certifications follow its move into smart packaging, allowing every product to be ‘born digital’ at the time of manufacture.

Sealed Air has partnered with Digimarc Corporation to bring product digitization to markets like food proteins, eCommerce fulfillment, industrials, and consumer goods at scale through smart packaging.

By giving every product item a unique digital identity in the product cloud, brands ensure a product’s authenticity, improve the product’s circularity, power a smarter supply chain, and open an owned-media channel for direct-to-consumer engagement and the delivery of contextualized experiences.

At the same time, brands receive invaluable, real-time data intelligence to drive future sales, marketing, and other key business strategies.

According to a recent Censuswide survey of 4,064 consumers in the United States and the United Kingdom, 73% of consumers said being able to verify that a product is authentic is important with over half (56%) stating transparency into how and where a product is made (ethical production) influences purchasing decisions. Sixty percent of respondents indicated being able to recycle packaging is important.
