The setup enables Sibeg to bring the manufacturing of sensitive beverages in-house.

ITALY – Sibeg, the official bottler of The Coca-Cola Company in Sicily, has partnered with global packaging technology provider Sidel to install its first aseptic PET bottling line at its Catania production facility.
The newly commissioned line, capable of producing 18,000 bottles per hour, marks a key milestone in Sibeg’s strategy to expand its beverage portfolio and reinforce sustainability across operations.
The advanced line integrates Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis, EvoFilm Stretch, and PalKombi systems, enabling Sibeg to bring the manufacturing of sensitive beverages in-house — a process previously outsourced to co-packers.
The investment forms part of Sibeg’s broader environmental strategy, which aims to achieve zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and reach full carbon neutrality by 2032.
“This move reflects our strategic effort to both expand our product portfolio and enhance flexibility in meeting customer demands, while also cutting down on pollution from truck transport from Northern Italy,” said Luca Busi, CEO of Sibeg.
“Sidel and Sibeg share a long-standing partnership, and once again, Sibeg places its trust in Sidel, this time for aseptic production, relying on its expertise to ensure the highest levels of product safety.”
Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis system uses a dry preform decontamination process employing hydrogen peroxide mist, reducing water, energy, and chemical use while maintaining product safety and extending shelf life.
The installation allows Sibeg to produce up to ten different beverage formats, including teas and energy drinks.
Complementing this, Sidel’s EvoFilm Stretch replaces traditional shrink-wrapping, reducing plastic use by up to 60% and energy consumption by 90%, while the Evo-ON Flex digital solution enhances production efficiency through real-time monitoring and optimized bottle changeovers.
Founded in 1960, Sibeg employs over 400 people and operates eight production lines for soft drinks, energy beverages, and water, supplying more than 24,500 outlets across Sicily.
By choosing Sidel as its single supplier for this project, the company aims to set a new benchmark in aseptic PET production for the region.
The collaboration coincides with Sidel’s recent unveiling of EvoBLOW Laser technology at Drinktec 2025 in Munich, a breakthrough solution that enables the creation of lighter and stronger PET and rPET containers, further advancing the sustainability goals shared by both companies.
