GERMANY – Global provider of printing inks and coatings for packaging applications and labels, Siegwerk has launched a new SICURA Litho Pack series for non-food packaging applications made of paper, board and plastic substrates.

The latest series is said to be versatile, low-odour UV offset inks and varnishes for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) markets.

According to Siegwerk, the CMR-free series has deinkability properties and is intended to replace the company’s SICURA Plast SP series.

The new low-odor product line is created without CMR Cat. 1 compound like Benzophenone in accordance with the most recent Siegwerk Exclusion Policy rules. The new series is also free of PFAS/PTFE and TMPTA.

Siegwerk EMEA Sheetfed customer service and product manager Jerome Fumex said: “With the launch of our new SICURA Litho Pack series, we now offer customers in the EMEA region the next generation of UV offset inks and varnishes especially formulated for the use on cardboard and various synthetic substrates.”

The new series offers superior adhesion capabilities and has a wide range of applications, including coated and metalized paper and board, aluminum, and plastics. It is ideal for the substrates used in the luxury industry, Siegwerk added.

According to the Germany-based ink producer, SICURA Litho Pack’s color strength and press run stability are confirmed by early users.

The range also showed a stable ink/water balance even over extended runs, good film flexibility for post-processing and strong flowability and high ink transfer.

The series has a sharp print quality and calls for low-damp settings, Siegwerk claimed. The product line includes a large color palette for mixing systems in addition to ISO-compliant standard process colors.

Additionally, the prints may be laminated or overprinted with UV varnishes using the business’s recently created line of TMPTA-free flexo and offset OPVs.

Fumex added: “The plan is that the new series will completely replace our previous UV offset series SICURA Plast SP by end of 2023 latest.

“Therefore, we paid attention to keeping the exact same colorimetry on mixing bases to avoid any reformulation work for the existing recipes of our customers.”

As a global leader in product safety, Siegwerk always takes all necessary actions to formulate its products based on the latest EuPIA exclusion policy guidelines (based on the EuPIA exclusion policy).

Its experts dedicated to product safety and regulatory issues are continuously working on further enhancing the company’s formulations in terms of safety, health, and environmental protection.

This also includes the substitution of substances and raw materials that are newly reclassified as CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic and Reprotoxic).
