Silly Nice teams up with Sana Packaging on tariff-evasive, eco-friendly cannabis packaging

This eco-conscious shift has already diverted approximately 694 pounds of plastic waste from entering the ocean.

USA – Independent cannabis brand Silly Nice has partnered with Sana Packaging to create a more sustainable and economically viable packaging solution, responding to mounting tariffs and global supply chain disruptions affecting the U.S. cannabis market.

The strategic alliance enables Silly Nice to transition away from international vendors, instead sourcing locally produced packaging made from reclaimed materials.

The new packaging lineup includes lids crafted from recycled ocean-bound plastic, 100% recycled glass jars, and renewable hemp-based boxes.

This eco-conscious shift has already diverted approximately 694 pounds of plastic waste from entering the ocean.

“Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a responsibility,” said Silly Nice co-founder LeVar Thomas.

“We needed a solution that didn’t just respond to tariffs but propelled us in a better direction. Ron and the Sana team were pivotal in making that happen.”

In addition to its environmental advantages, the move to domestic suppliers is also a cost-effective one.

Silly Nice now benefits from consistent pricing, shorter lead times, and streamlined logistics—reducing inventory pressure and avoiding the unpredictability of international shipping.

Founded by Ron Basak-Smith, Sana Packaging specializes in American-made, waste-reducing packaging solutions for the cannabis industry.

“They [Silly Nice] didn’t just adapt to survive—they evolved,” said Basak-Smith. “They saw tariffs not as a setback, but as an opportunity to adopt smarter, more sustainable business practices.”

The partnership builds on Sana Packaging’s long-standing commitment to sustainability. In February 2024, the company launched a child-resistant preroll multipack made entirely from reclaimed ocean-bound plastic.

The multipack holds up to five 85mm prerolls (0.5g to 1g each) and offers ample space for branding and compliance labelling.

Since debuting its first ocean-bound plastic cannabis packaging in 2019, Sana Packaging has reclaimed over 750,000 pounds of plastic waste—an achievement Basak-Smith attributes to the strong support of the company’s customers.

Looking ahead, the company aims to surpass the one-million-pound milestone in plastic recovery.

“Our journey is far from over,” Basak-Smith added. “We’re just getting started in redefining what responsible packaging can look like in this industry.”
