Tetra Pak Arabia wins two major honors at PRIME Summit Awards 2025

The award reinforces the company’s leadership in developing sustainable packaging solutions for the region.

UAE – Tetra Pak Arabia received top honors at the fifth edition of the PRIME Summit Awards 2025, held on 10 April at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai.

The company secured two prestigious accolades: Gold for Sustainable Packaging Company of the Year and Silver for Packaging Recycler of the Year.

The Sustainable Packaging Company of the Year award recognizes Tetra Pak Arabia’s innovation in alternative paper-based barrier packaging, a breakthrough that has increased the renewable content of its cartons to 90% while reducing their carbon footprint by 33%.

This reinforces the company’s leadership in developing sustainable packaging solutions for the region.

Tetra Pak’s second award, Packaging Recycler of the Year, honors its pioneering partnership with Union Paper Mills (UPM), launched in November 2024.

The initiative introduced the first dedicated carton recycling line in the region, backed by a AED 2.5 million investment.

With a capacity to recycle up to 10,000 tonnes of carton packages annually, the facility has set a new benchmark for the UAE’s recycling capabilities.

Together, these initiatives reflect Tetra Pak’s steadfast commitment to circularity and environmental stewardship, while also aligning with the UAE’s broader sustainability goals.

The company continues to gain recognition at the PRIME Summit Awards, having previously won CSR Initiative of the Year and Best Sustainable Packaging Solution in 2023.

Organized by Packaging MEA, the PRIME Summit Awards celebrate the most impactful innovations and advancements in the packaging industry across the region, highlighting companies that are pushing the boundaries of progress.

Meanwhile, Tetra Pak, at the 2024 Sustainable Packaging News Awards, received the Resource Efficiency Award for its groundbreaking paper-based barrier material.

This innovation, marking a world-first in the carton packaging industry, combines a paper-based barrier with plant-based polymers, reducing the carbon footprint of aseptic food packaging by up to one-third, while maintaining performance and food safety standards. The achievement has been independently verified by The Carbon Trust.

As global demand rises for low-carbon, renewable materials, Tetra Pak’s innovation offers a promising alternative to the traditional aluminium foil layer used for oxygen and light protection in aseptic packaging.

The new barrier technology increases the carton’s paperboard content from 70% to approximately 80%, contributing further to emission reduction and sustainability in food packaging.

These collective advancements highlight Tetra Pak Arabia’s leadership in building a circular and sustainable future, protecting both people, through safe food delivery, and the planet through innovation-driven solutions.
