Valmet to boost JK Paper’s production with advanced equipment

INDIA – Finnish materials company Valmet has secured an order to supply a new bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) line and a related evaporator system to JK Paper Limited’s Fort Songadh mill in India.

The new equipment is expected to enhance JK Paper’s production capacity for high-quality, lightweight coated board.

The order, placed in the second quarter of this year, aims for start-up by the end of 2025. The BCTMP line, with a capacity of 400 ADMT/d, will utilize Valmet’s cutting-edge HT-BCTMP technology to optimize pulp impregnation.

This process is designed to produce high-bulk pulp with minimal shive content while maintaining low energy consumption.

The installation will include key process technologies such as chip washing, pre-steaming, impregnation, refining, bleaching, screening, and pulp washing.

In addition, the evaporator system will feature Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) technology for efficient management of plant liquor, along with a condensate treatment plant.

The new system is designed to handle 180 tons of water per hour, with Valmet’s patented Internal Condensate Treatment system ensuring cleaner water recycling within the mill.

JK Paper’s President, A.S. Mehta, emphasized the importance of the new technology, “The BCTMP and evaporator line will be crucial in meeting growing market demands while maintaining our commitment to quality and environmental responsibility.

“Valmet’s HT-BCTMP technology ensures superior pulp quality and energy efficiency, keeping us competitive globally.”

JK Paper, a leading Indian producer of office, coated, writing, and printing papers and high-end packaging boards, operates three integrated pulp and paper mills across India with an installed capacity of 800,000 tonnes per annum.

Fredrik Willgottson, Vice President of Pulp & Energy for Valmet Asia Pacific, expressed his confidence in the partnership, “This order marks a continuation of our successful collaboration with JK Paper. Our advanced HT-BCTMP and evaporator line technologies will enhance their production capabilities while reducing environmental impact through energy-efficient solutions.”

The partnership highlights Valmet’s role in supporting JK Paper’s growth through sustainable and innovative solutions, helping the company maintain its leadership in the competitive global market.

In June, Valmet supplied a Valmet IQ quality control system to Thai Containers Group’s corrugated containers plant in Rayong, Thailand.

This installation marks a significant step toward enhancing the plant’s quality and productivity. Scheduled to start in Q1 2025, the system will reduce waste caused by warped boards and improve overall efficiency. The value of the order remains undisclosed.

The collaboration between Valmet and Thai Containers Group, which began in 2020, has been a resounding success.
