Mold-Tek Packaging Q2 EBITDA rises 29% to US$5.34M

That profit growth and margin stability diverge suggests substantially higher operating earnings in absolute terms, notwithstanding a slight dilution in the profitability percentage.

INDIA – Mold-Tek Packaging has reported an EBITDA of ₹506 million (US$5.34 million) for the second quarter of the current financial year, a 29.4% YoY increase from ₹391 million (US$4.12 million), driven by robust volume growth in pharmaceutical and food packaging segments.

The packaging major posted a standalone net profit of ₹211 million (US$2.23 million), up 36.1% from ₹155 million (US$1.63 million) in the corresponding period last year.

While absolute profits expanded, the EBITDA margin stood at 18.44% for the quarter, compared with 18.65% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, a marginal contraction of 21 basis points.

The divergence between profit growth and margin stability suggests that operating earnings increased substantially in absolute terms despite a slight dilution in profitability percentage.

Pharma and Food Packaging Volumes Drive Growth

The company achieved an overall sales volume growth of 10.08% year-on-year during the quarter, reaching 11,028.46 metric tonnes.

Pharmaceutical packaging delivered volume growth of 26.30%, emerging as a key growth driver.

Food and fast-moving consumer goods packaging, including Q-Pack, registered volume growth of 23.70%, reflecting strong demand.

Paints packaging recorded steady growth of 8.61%, while lubricants packaging witnessed a decline of 12.32%.

The strong performance in food and pharmaceutical segments more than offset the moderation in lubricants.

Cost Pass-Through Protects Margins Amid Raw Material Inflation

J Lakshmana Rao, chairman and managing director, noted that despite geopolitical disruptions and raw material price increases, the company successfully passed on costs through pre-agreed pricing arrangements, protecting operating margins.

The disparity between 10.08% volume growth and 30.73% revenue growth highlights significant price realisation or mix improvement.

The company reported EBITDA per kilogram of ₹46.49 (US$0.49), up 30% year-on-year, indicating enhanced operational efficiencies and better product mix contribution to margins.

Specialised Packaging Demand Outpaces Broader Market

The results reflect growing demand for rigid plastic packaging solutions across pharmaceutical and food categories, where hygiene, barrier properties and print quality determine product selection.

Mold-Tek’s volume gains in these segments contrast with softer lubricant packaging performance, suggesting that consumer staples and healthcare applications offer more resilient growth than industrial categories tied to cyclical demand.

For packaging producers, the ability to pass through raw material costs while maintaining volume growth demonstrates pricing power in specialised segments where technical requirements limit supplier substitution.
