Amcor’s 12-station flexo printing creates reflective blue vignette on Ocean Potion’s kids’ sunscreen tube

The launch extends a decade-long packaging partnership between the two companies. Ocean Potion GM Rasheda Jackson said Amcor has been a great partner for years, and the work on the new mineral sunscreen line was no different.

USA – Amcor has helped Ocean Potion develop a 3.4 oz laminate tube for its Mineral Kids SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion, using all 12 stations of a flexographic printing press to create a highly reflective blue vignette and continuous 360-degree graphics.

Ocean Potion developed its mineral-based zinc oxide formula specifically for children’s skin, requesting a specialised container design featuring a reflective blue gradient across the lower portion of the tube to represent sun reflecting from ocean waves, topped with a yellow cap mirroring the brand logo.

Amcor overcame significant printing challenges, including managing seams that typically complicate tubes with metallic foils and inks, to secure uninterrupted graphics across all 360 degrees of the pack.

A clear overlaminate was used to protect the integrity of the inks.

Creative Collaboration and Technical Execution

Amcor hosted product development sessions at its Creative Services Studio in Evansville to refine the final aesthetic layout. Zach Scheller, Product Line Director for Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions North America, stated that the team was excited to welcome Ocean Potion to collaborate on their vision for the product line extension, adding that when they completed the tube design together, they knew they had created something truly special.

The manufacturing process successfully integrated continuous artwork around the container, resolving technical complications tied to metallic foils and inks.

A Decade-Long Partnership and Market Impact

The launch expands a decade-long packaging partnership between both companies.

Ocean Potion General Manager Rasheda Jackson stated that Amcor has been a great partner for years, and the work on the new mineral sunscreen product line extension was no exception.

She added that the company values the creativity, agility, attention to detail and technical skills that Amcor brings to every project.

The complex artwork is expected to make a splash on shelves as families prepare to get outdoors.

Industry Context: Sustainable Tube Innovations

In related packaging news, Quadpack previously collaborated with suncare brand Hei Poa to develop a mono-material, 50% post-consumer recycled pack for its first facial stick product.

Neopac Group’s PaperX FibreTop tube has also been certified as technically recyclable in the conventional paper stream by the PTS Institute.

Amcor recently worked alongside Mondelēz International, LyondellBasell and Taghleef Industries to implement 75% chemically recycled content into the flexible packaging for Marabou chocolate bars.
