Apex International launches Anilox Armor protective covers to enhance flexo pressroom reliability

INDIA – Flexographic technology provider Apex International has announced the global launch of Anilox Armor, a new range of protective covers designed to safeguard anilox sleeves and rollers during storage, transport and routine pressroom handling.

Scheduled for global availability beginning March 2026, the product addresses growing industry concerns about maintaining pressroom reliability and colour consistency as printers increasingly adopt expanded colour gamut (ECG) printing techniques.

In flexographic printing, anilox rollers play a critical role in controlling ink transfer. However, their finely engraved surfaces remain vulnerable to mechanical impacts, abrasion and chemical exposure.

Even minor damage can disrupt ink delivery, resulting in print defects, colour inconsistencies and costly production downtime.

Apex said the new protective covers are engineered to extend the lifespan of these high-value components.

The Anilox Armor range features a precision-fit interior designed to absorb shock during transportation, helping prevent damage to the delicate engraved surfaces of anilox sleeves.

The covers are constructed from fibre-reinforced plastic, allowing them to resist abrasion and maintain structural integrity after repeated use in demanding pressroom environments.

In addition, the materials are rated to withstand exposure to common printing inks, solvents and cleaning agents, ensuring long-term durability.

The reusable design also addresses sustainability concerns by reducing reliance on disposable packaging materials typically used to wrap anilox sleeves during storage or shipping.

Beyond physical protection, Apex has integrated a workflow-enhancing feature into the design. The covers include colour-coded handling rings that allow press operators to quickly identify specific sleeves, improving asset management across different shifts and reducing the risk of mounting errors on press.

The Anilox Armor range has been developed to accommodate both conventional engravings and Apex’s patented GTT anilox technology, which is widely used for high-performance ink transfer in modern flexographic printing.

According to the company, the protective covers will initially be offered in standard sizes suitable for the most common sleeve and roller diameters used in flexographic presses. Custom dimensions will also be available for specialized narrow-web and wide-web applications.

The product line will be showcased at several major industry exhibitions throughout 2026, where flexographic converters and packaging printers will have an opportunity to evaluate the new solution.

Distribution will be handled through Apex International’s global headquarters and its network of regional partners.

Industry analysts note that innovations aimed at protecting and optimizing pressroom assets are becoming increasingly important as packaging printers invest in high-precision technologies and seek to minimize downtime, improve colour accuracy and extend the lifecycle of critical printing components.
