Investment reflects growing premiumization of India’s photobook market.

INDIA – Digital printing specialist Kadam Digital Transprints has invested in a fully automated layflat photobook binding system, marking a significant step toward industrial-scale production in India’s premium photo album market.
The company has installed the Magnabind Layflat Imagebook-3000X, described as India’s first industry-grade, fully automatic layflat photobook binding machine, at its production facility in Pune.
The move signals a shift toward higher levels of automation within the country’s fast-evolving photobook and wedding album manufacturing sector.
India’s photo-album industry, particularly the wedding segment, has traditionally depended on semi-automatic systems and labour-intensive processes.
While these methods have supported strong craftsmanship and customization, they often limit scalability and consistency as photography studios expand beyond regional markets.
The newly installed system is designed to address those constraints. The Magnabind Layflat Imagebook-3000X integrates automated sheet feeding, precision alignment, controlled adhesive application and uniform pressing cycles to produce seamless layflat spreads.
The technology ensures accurate spine construction and eliminates page lift, an essential requirement for panoramic wedding images and high-end photo storytelling.
For Kadam Digital, the investment represents a strategic transition from high-quality boutique production to high-quality industrial manufacturing.
By automating key stages of photobook assembly, the company aims to improve production speed, reduce reliance on manual labour and deliver consistent output for large-volume orders.
The move also comes as India’s wedding photography industry continues to expand, driven by rising consumer spending and demand for premium keepsake albums.
Multi-city studio chains and professional photographers increasingly require faster turnaround times and standardized quality across large print runs.
Industry observers note that advanced automation technologies such as the Magnabind system could reshape production dynamics within the sector, enabling print service providers to scale operations while maintaining the craftsmanship associated with traditional album production.
The development also reinforces Pune’s growing reputation as a centre for high-end print manufacturing.
The city has emerged as a hub for digital printing, photobook production and specialized finishing technologies as companies invest in advanced equipment to serve India’s expanding photography and creative industries.
Across the global printing industry, automation and smart finishing technologies are becoming increasingly important as print service providers seek to improve efficiency, reduce costs and handle higher volumes of customized products.
Innovations in digital printing, automated binding and workflow integration are enabling companies to deliver premium photo products while maintaining competitive production timelines.
For Kadam Digital, the installation of the new system positions the company to better serve premium wedding photographers and large studio networks, while strengthening its role in India’s evolving photobook manufacturing landscape.
