The pouch uses Blue Star’s Eco-Fresh packaging, reducing CO2 emissions.

USA – Miami-based Blue Star Foods Corp., a leader in sustainable seafood using Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS), has unveiled a strategic partnership with KeHE Distributors to introduce its flagship 6-ounce crab meat pouch across the United States.
This move expands the company’s reach through KeHE’s extensive network of 18 distribution centers and over 31,000 retail and online outlets, enhancing accessibility for eco-conscious consumers.
The newly launched pouch, crafted from wild-caught blue swimming crab, offers a blend of convenience and sustainability.
According to the company, the fully cooked, pasteurized product features a refrigerated long shelf life, making it ideal for grab-and-go meals.
Its clean-label, keto-friendly formulation contains less than 2 grams of carbohydrates per serving, appealing to health-focused shoppers.
Unlike imitation crab, it avoids added starches or sugars, ensuring a low glycemic impact.
In a statement, John Keeler, CEO of Blue Star Foods, said, “This partnership with KeHE is a game-changer for our growth strategy. It allows us to deliver innovative seafood products that resonate with consumers’ values and lifestyles.”
“We’re excited to roll out our 6-ounce crab meat pouch through their vast distribution network.”
The pouch utilizes Eco-Fresh packaging, which significantly reduces energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and transportation impacts compared to traditional cans or cups.
A report by Blue Star highlights that this packaging consumes 60% less CO2 than conventional options.
Since introducing the Eco-Fresh pouch in 2003, the company has sold nearly 12 million units, reflecting strong market demand for sustainable solutions.
Blue Star’s commitment to a Triple Bottom Line philosophy, balancing economic, social, and environmental priorities, underpins this launch.
The company, which operates North America’s oldest continuously running RAS salmon farm, emphasizes ethical sourcing and resource-efficient packaging.
KeHE, a Certified B Corporation with over 7,900 employee-owners, aligns with this mission, serving natural food stores, grocery chains, and e-commerce retailers nationwide.
To mark the launch, Blue Star is offering limited-time promotions: retailers ordering through KeHE receive a 50% discount on Manufacturers Charge Back.
At the same time, consumers can access a Buy-One-Get-One deal directly from the company.
In related news, Blue Star recently expanded its portfolio by launching an Asian Food Division in March 2025, focusing on high-value sushi products to meet growing demand for Japanese cuisine.
This initiative complements the crab meat pouch launch, reinforcing Blue Star’s position in the sustainable seafood market.
With this partnership, Blue Star Foods and KeHE Distributors are setting a new standard for sustainable, health-conscious seafood accessible to consumers across the U.S.
