CCL Label completes Sleever acquisition, rebroadening sleeve, film portfolio with 11 new manufacturing sites

The acquisition combines CCL’s and Sleever’s R&D strengths to accelerate the development of next-generation sleeve formats, improved recyclability technologies, and high-performance films.

GLOBAL – CCL Label has closed the acquisition of Sleever International, with Sleever’s label and film businesses rebranded as CCL Label and Innovia Films respectively, adding 11 manufacturing sites to CCL’s worldwide network to improve supply chain resilience, shorten lead times, and enhance business continuity for customers.

Sleever is a privately owned global manufacturer of shrink sleeve labels, extruded films, and application equipment serving consumer packaged goods and healthcare customers. Sleever’s application equipment business will continue to operate under the Sleever name, preserving its strong reputation in machinery and engineering.

The acquisition expands CCL’s global footprint and technical capabilities in the growing sleeve and film segments.

A Combined Portfolio of Sustainable Materials

Customers will have access to a more comprehensive portfolio of sustainable materials, including recycled-friendly and low-impact sleeves, advanced films, and energy-efficient application systems that support customers’ environmental commitments.

Shrink sleeves are full-body labels that shrink to conform to container contours when heated, offering 360-degree decoration that rigid labels cannot match.

However, conventional shrink sleeves can complicate recycling because the label material (often PET-G) differs from the container (PET), requiring separation during recycling.

Sleever has developed recyclable-friendly sleeve materials that are compatible with container recycling streams.

The acquisition combines CCL’s and Sleever’s R&D strengths to accelerate the development of next-generation sleeve formats, improved recyclability technologies, and high-performance films.

Expanded Innovation and Technical Support

The acquisition will see stronger innovation capabilities, combining CCL’s and Sleever’s R&D strengths to accelerate the development of next-generation sleeve formats, improved recyclability technologies, and high-performance films.

Integrated decoration and application expertise will enable customers to achieve premium shelf impact, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency through advanced application equipment and high-end decoration services.

Greater technical support and engineering depth, with expanded global teams, will provide customers with end-to-end expertise from material science to application equipment.

Günther Birkner, president of CCL Label’s Food and Beverage sector and Innovia Films, who will assume overall responsibility for the acquisition, commented that bringing Sleever into the CCL family significantly strengthens the company’s ability to serve customers in the sleeve and film markets.

By combining Sleever’s deep expertise in shrink sleeve technology and application equipment with CCL’s global scale and portfolio, CCL is creating a more resilient, innovative, and customer-focused platform.

This acquisition allows CCL to offer broader sustainable solutions, enhanced technical support, and greater supply security, benefits that will help customers compete and grow in their markets.
