UK – Food packaging specialist Colpac has extended its recyclable, food-contact Stagione range to include PE-coated pots and implement ovenability into its PP-coated packaging.

The extended Stagione range will now include polyethylene-(PE) coated pots available in multiple sizes, including 500ml, 750ml, and 1000ml.

The company stated that the PE coating on the newly added pots helps in providing a grease-resistant barrier for a wide range of food items and dishes.

It can also be used for oily and acidic food items that need a higher-quality barrier.

Being lightweight in nature, Stagione’s pots help in enhancing transport efficiency can be offered at a lower cost.

Colpac’s coated pots come with various lid options such as the paperboard PE-lined lid, which is a lightweight, single-skinned lid.

Another lid comes in a self-venting tabs option, which is ideal for hot, chilled, and takeaway food items.

It is made using recycled polyethylene terephthalate and features an anti-mist coating to provide clarity in the chilled displays.

These two lids can be used with all three pot sizes, further minimizing the stock-keeping unit count for distributors and retailers.

In addition, the company has extended the usage of its existing polypropylene (PP) products to further include the functionality of oven reheating.

The oven-safe, PP-coated Stagione products have been introduced to address the demand for a wider range of food packaging applications.

Colpac said its PP-coated pots have received the relevant certification for oven reheating.

The company, however, claimed that these certifications are for specific oven parameters and customers must test the Stagione products themselves for their specific food type requirements.

In September last year, Colpac introduced multi-food pots in response to market demand for secure and sustainable delivery.

Manufactured at the company’s UK factory, the pots meet the On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) recyclability guidelines for the coming years.

Colpac stated that the multi-food pots are available in four different sizes, ranging from 470ml to 1,300ml.

They are designed to act as versatile food-to-go packaging solutions that can be used to serve a broad variety of dishes, from salads to hot ‘food-to-go’ products.

In addition, the pots aim to offer flexibility to food service companies and retailers. A maximum of 7% plastic is used in the bases of the pots, which have a polyethylene (PE) coating that creates a barrier to moisture and grease.
