The films aim at meeting the rising demand food-safe packaging.

INDIA – Cosmo Films has expanded its specialty packaging portfolio in India with the launch of a new range of films tailored for the fast-growing pet food segment, as demand rises for high-performance, food-safe, and convenience-driven packaging solutions.
The Indian packaging films manufacturer has introduced a mix of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), cast polypropylene (CPP), and biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) films designed to meet the stringent safety, barrier, and durability requirements of both dry and wet pet food applications.
At the core of the launch is a high heat-resistant transparent Thermal Resistant (TR)-BOPP film capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 185°C, while offering uniform linear tear performance.
Positioned as an alternative to conventional PET print layers commonly used in pet food packaging, the TR-BOPP film supports improved processing efficiency and performance consistency.
The expanded range also includes anti-fog transparent BOPET lidding films and COPET-coated BOPET films engineered to enhance adhesion, seal integrity, and machinability.
For products requiring extended shelf life, Cosmo Films has rolled out coated metallized BOPET films that improve oxygen and moisture barrier properties, making them suitable for both dry and wet pet food formats.
In addition, the company has introduced ultra-high barrier metallized BOPP films designed to replace aluminium foil in certain applications.
These structures allow for simplified packaging designs while maintaining effective protection against moisture and oxygen, particularly for dry pet food and treats.
Commenting on the launch, Cosmo First Group CEO Pankaj Poddar said the pet food category is evolving rapidly, requiring packaging to keep pace with changing consumer expectations.
He noted that insights gained from building Zigly, Cosmo First’s fast-growing pet care business, have enabled the company to better understand pet parent behaviour and product requirements, translating into films that deliver enhanced safety, barrier performance, convenience, and brand differentiation.
The India launch follows Cosmo Films’ continued global expansion. In August, Cosmo Films USA, a subsidiary of Cosmo First, strengthened its North American operations with the installation of a 120-inch-wide high-speed slitter rewinder at its Carol Stream warehouse in Chicago.
Capable of running at speeds of up to 3,000 feet per minute, the equipment processes BOPP, CPP, BOPET, and PET-G films, supporting high-demand formats such as pouches, sachets, and wraps.
According to Cosmo Films, the investment significantly reduces delivery timelines to 10–15 days, helping customers optimize inventory and adopt just-in-time supply models.
Together, these developments underscore Cosmo Films’ strategy of combining specialty film innovation with localized manufacturing and service capabilities to support evolving packaging needs across global markets.
