New transparent film combines antifog performance, heat-sealability and oxo-biodegradable properties for fresh produce, meat and floral packaging.

INDIA – Cosmo Films has expanded its sustainable flexible packaging portfolio with the launch of a transparent biodegradable biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film designed for fresh food packaging applications that require high product visibility, reliable sealing performance and extended shelf appeal.
The new co-extruded film features heat-sealable and treated layers on both sides, combining functional packaging performance with environmental considerations.
According to the company, the material incorporates oxo-biodegradable properties and is designed to break down within two to two-and-a-half years under suitable environmental conditions.
Developed for packaging formats where clarity and product presentation are critical, the film includes an antifog coating on one side that helps prevent condensation in both chilled and warm conditions.
By reducing moisture-related fogging, the technology improves product visibility throughout storage, transportation and retail display.
The reverse side of the film has been engineered to provide strong ink adhesion, enabling high-quality printing for branding and product information.
Cosmo Films said the material also delivers key performance attributes including excellent machinability, optical clarity, heat-seal strength, hot-tack performance and a low seal initiation temperature.
These characteristics are intended to improve packaging line efficiency while ensuring dependable seal integrity for temperature-sensitive food products.
The film is targeted at a range of applications including fresh-cut vegetables, salads, meat products and flower wrapping, where transparency, freshness and moisture management play an important role in product presentation and shelf life.
“Fresh food packaging requires films to perform across multiple parameters, from optical clarity and antifogging to seal integrity and machinability,” said Kulbhushan Malik, Global Business Head at Cosmo Films.
“With the transparent antifog biodegradable film, we have focused on engineering these functional properties into a single BOPP film while incorporating oxo-biodegradable characteristics.
“The development reflects our continued focus on application-led innovation and creating specialised film solutions aligned with evolving packaging requirements.”
The latest launch builds on Cosmo Films’ innovation in food packaging materials. Earlier this year, the company introduced a sealable, peelable transparent anti-fog BOPET lidding film designed for refrigerated and fresh food packaging, further expanding its portfolio of high-performance packaging films.
The introduction of the new BOPP film comes as the flexible packaging industry continues to develop materials that combine functionality with improved environmental performance.
Manufacturers are increasingly focusing on packaging solutions that enhance product protection, extend shelf life and improve processing efficiency while responding to growing demand for more sustainable packaging options.
Innovations in antifog technology, barrier performance and specialty films remain key areas of development as food producers seek packaging that balances product quality, consumer convenience and evolving sustainability expectations.
