UK – DS Smith has reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 19% compared to 2019 and 2020, as detailed in its latest Sustainability Report.
This report outlines the company’s commitments in key focus areas: Circularity, Carbon, Nature, and People & Communities.
The Now & Next Sustainability Strategy, refreshed last year, aims to prioritize circularity, accelerate the journey to net zero, and enhance the focus on protecting environmental and human health.
Driven by the Now & Next Strategy, DS Smith seeks to lead the transition to a low-carbon, circular economy, aligning with its purpose to redefine packaging for a changing world.
Besides reducing GHG emissions by 19%, DS Smith surpassed its goal of replacing over one billion pieces of plastic ahead of schedule and earned an ‘A’ rating on climate change from the global environmental non-profit CDP.
The Sustainability Report highlights DS Smith’s progress and future commitments in circularity, carbon reduction, nature conservation, and community support.
One notable achievement is that the company exceeded its plastic replacement target across international markets more than a year earlier than planned.
This milestone supports DS Smith’s circularity objectives of designing out waste and extending the use of materials.
Miles Roberts, Group Chief Executive of DS Smith, commented, “I am delighted with our progress on our current and future sustainability strategy, as detailed in our latest sustainability report.
“I am immensely proud of our team for exceeding our plastic replacement target more than a year earlier, continuing to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions year-on-year, and securing recognition as a sustainability leader by CDP.
“We believe that our Now & Next Sustainability Strategy is leading our industry, so while it is right to celebrate our colleagues’ achievements, we also know we need to keep moving forward. We are working with our customers to ensure that together we can lead the transition to a low-carbon, circular economy.”
Guided by its refreshed sustainability strategy, DS Smith remains committed to pioneering sustainable packaging solutions and advancing environmental and social responsibility.
