Firsta validates heat-resistant ILC-BOPP film for 150°C, Zero-VOC coating line

Integrated capabilities, masterbatch, BOPP, coating, and metallisation across the group, ensure consistent quality and faster development for Asia’s expanding packaging market.

CHINA – Firsta Group has concluded validation tests on a high-barrier in-line coated biaxially oriented polypropylene base film, with performance measures reaching the required level at 150°C for demanding packaging and industrial applications.

The outcome represents a further stage in the development of ILC-BOPP for uses that involve higher operating temperatures, including electronic component protection and new energy materials. 

Unlike standard offline methods where film is produced and coated separately, ILC-BOPP combines biaxial orientation of the polypropylene substrate with application of the functional coating during production, streamlining manufacturing while enabling greater heat resistance and barrier properties. 

Firsta said it is the first industrial-scale ILC-BOPP line of this type in China, built with Brückner. 

Brückner-Coated Line Enables Zero-VOC Production and Energy Savings

Brückner Group redesigned and manufactured a customised coating system based on Firsta’s requirements and global market needs. 

By integrating the coating process into the production line, the system significantly reduces energy consumption and enables zero volatile organic compound emissions. 

Firsta has built a functional-film production platform spanning BOPP, BOPET, coating, metallisation and masterbatch, with high-barrier ILC-BOPP films already being produced in batches for food, pharmaceutical and medical packaging. 

With over 40 years of experience in polymer film manufacturing, Firsta continues to expand its portfolio of functional films for packaging and label applications, serving customers across global markets. 

The integrated manufacturing capabilities, masterbatch development, BOPP production, coating and vacuum metallisation across group companies, enable greater quality consistency and faster product development for the growing Asian packaging market.

Mono-Material Packaging and PPWR Compliance

ILC-BOPP is designed to support the growing demand for recyclable flexible packaging, combining high oxygen and moisture barrier properties with stable printability for snack foods, confectionery, tea, coffee, frozen foods and daily chemical products. 

Its launch comes as European packaging regulations, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, drive greater adoption of mono-material packaging that balances performance with recyclability. 

The newly validated temperature-resistant ILC-BOPP base film is under development for uses requiring both heat resistance and barrier performance, with Firsta planning to move the technology towards industrial-scale production. 

The company’s high-barrier ILC-BOPP films are already being produced in batches for electronic component protection, food, pharmaceutical and medical packaging, and new energy materials. 

The company will continue work on functional films designed for applications needing stronger barrier and thermal performance.
