USA – Graphic Controls has formed a partnership with Bixolon, a leader in printing technologies, to roll out linerless labeling solutions for global logistics and warehousing.
The initiative targets waste reduction in packaging operations by removing the need for backing liners, which often end up as landfill material.
In a statement released this week, the companies detailed how the technology supports quicker label application and lower material use.
Logistics firms can now apply labels up to 50% faster, according to product specifications, while automatic cutting features ensure exact lengths without extra tools.
This setup also extends roll life, minimizing changeovers and operational halts.
Peter O’Loughlin, vice president and general manager of Graphic Controls’ business media products, commented on the move: “This partnership drives innovation and sustainability in packaging.”
“Integrating Bixolon’s linerless tech into our lineup helps providers update their processes and shrink environmental effects.”
The solution draws on Graphic Controls’ expansion from data recording roots into modern labeling since the early 2000s.
Bixolon contributes its direct thermal printers, compatible with silicone-coated linerless media that prevents sticking during high-speed feeds.
Early adopters in warehousing report smoother workflows, with one distribution center noting a 30% drop in daily waste volume after trials.
Availability starts immediately via Graphic Controls’ worldwide network, covering North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.
Pricing for starter kits runs from US$500 to US$2,000, depending on volume, with full system integration costs averaging US$10,000 for mid-sized operations.
Meanwhile, in September, Henkel partnered with Ravenwood Packaging on a similar linerless system, which cuts label weight by 20% and carbon emissions during production.
Henkel’s adhesives enable direct application to bottles and boxes, avoiding plastic backings entirely.
That collaboration, announced on September 11, emphasizes compatibility with existing printers, much like the Graphic Controls-Bixolon offering.
Ravenwood’s CEO, Sarah Thompson, stated during the reveal: “Our joint work with Henkel proves linerless options scale easily for beverage and pharma sectors.”
Indirectly, this highlights how multiple players are converging on shared tech standards to ease adoption.
