Henkel partners with Sasol to deliver low-carbon hot melt adhesives

Strategic collaboration to drive sustainability across consumer goods packaging in EMEA and India.

GERMANY — Henkel, a global leader in adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings, has entered a strategic partnership with Sasol, a pioneer in Fischer-Tropsch technology.

The collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions in hot melt adhesive applications across Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa.

Central to this partnership is the integration of Sasol’s new SASOLWAX LC product range into Henkel’s TECHNOMELT adhesive formulations.

The flagship product, SASOLWAX LC100, achieves a 35% reduction in Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) from cradle to gate, without compromising performance.

Manufactured through Sasol’s enhanced Fischer-Tropsch process, the wax serves as a drop-in replacement in Henkel’s existing formulations, allowing seamless adoption without requiring process changes.

This innovation supports Henkel’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes reducing absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 (compared to a 2021 baseline).

Both companies have aligned their climate goals with the Science Based Targets initiative, reinforcing a shared commitment to credible and transparent sustainability practices.

“The partnership exemplifies how innovation in material science can deliver measurable sustainability benefits for our customers,” said Corbett Wallace, Corporate Vice President of Consumer Goods at Henkel Adhesive Technologies.

“As demand grows for greener consumer products, our collaboration with Sasol helps brands meet their environmental goals without trade-offs in quality or efficiency.”

David Mokomela, Senior Vice President of Chemicals Marketing & Sales at Sasol, added, “This collaboration with Henkel marks a significant milestone in our shared journey towards a more sustainable future.

“SASOLWAX LC offers a 35% reduction in PCF and serves as a fast-track solution to cutting carbon emissions across the adhesive value chain.”

The PCF methodology applied to SASOLWAX has been independently reviewed and aligns with international standards ISO 14040, 14044, and 14067, ensuring transparency in environmental claims.

Henkel’s TECHNOMELT adhesives are widely used in packaging for food, beverage, hygiene, and personal care products.

By incorporating SASOLWAX LC100, Henkel enables its partners to enhance the environmental performance of their packaging solutions at the material level, supporting supply chain transparency and helping brands deliver on their climate pledges.

Looking ahead, the partnership will also explore further innovations using renewable and recycled feedstocks, backed by Sasol’s flexible synthesis capabilities and both companies’ joint dedication to sustainable development.
