GERMANY – Hugo Beck has unveiled its latest innovation in packaging technology, partnering with an instant noodle producer to implement the servo X packaging line.

This advanced system significantly enhances the company’s packaging capacity while maintaining rapid output speeds.

Hugo Beck’s UK sales partner, Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS), supplied the servo X side sealer and a double chamber shrink tunnel.

The system boasts an impressive potential throughput of up to 10,000 cycles per hour, achieved through a servo-driven motor and a continuous motion transverse sealing bar.

This seamless motion eliminates conventional systems’ stop/start action, ensuring uninterrupted efficiency.

The servo X packaging machine is engineered to create the side seal before the transverse seal, resulting in tighter, more aesthetically pleasing packs and reducing material usage.

Hugo Beck reports that the system saves approximately 15% more film compared to similar competitive models.

In this installation, the machine runs an ultra-thin film supplied by YPS, featuring 30% recycled content and reduced thickness from 35 microns to 12.5 microns—marking a 64% reduction in plastics usage without compromising performance.

With the new packaging line, the instant meal producer has tripled its packaging capacity compared to its previous system.

Expanding machine range for e-commerce

Hugo Beck has also introduced significant updates to its machine portfolio, catering to the evolving demands of e-commerce, mail order, and logistics.

The new paper e-com rapid machine enhances speed and efficiency in sustainable packaging solutions. With a maximum output of 900 cycles per hour, it creates shipping bags with two sewn sides and two glued sides, ensuring secure, precise packaging.

The machine automatically adjusts bag sizes to accommodate varied product dimensions during production, enabling efficient mixed-batch packaging.

The paper e-com rapid offers a higher performance class for the e-commerce sector, complementing the existing paper e-com fit.

Both models focus on minimizing paper usage while maintaining functionality. The paper e-com fit stores two paper rolls of different widths, selecting the appropriate size for each product to reduce material waste. In contrast, the rapid model achieves faster speeds using two identical paper webs.

These machines are tailored for a variety of applications, from direct dispatch of single items to managing product returns.

They work seamlessly with uncoated and coated recyclable papers, producing precise paper bags with minimal material use for up to 200 mm tall products.

“Our commitment to sustainable, efficient packaging drives our innovation,” said Timo Kollmann, Managing Director at Hugo Beck.

“By integrating fully automated machines like the paper e-com rapid, we’re helping customers enhance packaging quality, reduce downtime, and future-proof their processes.”

The launch of paper e-commerce rapidly follows a year of significant growth for Hugo Beck in the e-commerce and logistics sector.

Its paper e-com fit model, showcased at Interpack 2023 in Düsseldorf and PACK EXPO 2023 in Las Vegas, has set benchmarks for sustainable packaging solutions.

With its latest advancements, Hugo Beck reinforces its position as a leader in efficient, eco-friendly packaging technology tailored to meet the demands of modern industries.
