The new packaging utilizes Amcor’s advanced CleanStream technology

FRANCE – Maison Guerlain, a renowned Parisian fragrance and cosmetics house, has introduced its Aqua Allegoria hand creams in innovative packaging crafted from Amcor’s CleanStream post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene (PP).
The new packaging utilizes Amcor’s advanced CleanStream technology, which transforms household PP waste into high-purity recycled plastic suitable for contact-sensitive applications.
The process employs cutting-edge artificial intelligence to identify, sort, and decontaminate materials, ensuring the recycled polymer meets the stringent quality demands of premium beauty products.
This allows the packaging to maintain both product integrity and the sophisticated visual appeal synonymous with Guerlain’s brand.
Marine Sueur, sales director for France at Amcor, emphasized the technology’s role in redefining luxury packaging.
“The beauty sector faces the challenge of balancing luxury with sustainability,” she said. “CleanStream bridges this gap, delivering a high-quality polymer that rivals virgin materials while supporting circular economy goals.”
The Aqua Allegoria hand cream bottles, made entirely of recyclable PP, feature a multilayer construction and are screen-printed with a matte, colorless varnish for a refined finish.
Available in three colors to match the product variants, the design draws inspiration from a honeycomb, paying homage to Guerlain’s iconic bee emblem.
Produced at Amcor’s French facilities, the packaging benefits from a localized supply chain, reducing transport-related emissions.
Guerlain’s hand creams, formulated with over 97% natural-origin ingredients, align with the sustainable ethos of the packaging.
The recyclable bottles are compatible with Europe’s existing recycling infrastructure, ensuring they contribute to a circular economy without compromising performance or elegance.
In a statement, a Maison Guerlain spokesperson highlighted the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
“Our partnership with Amcor reflects our dedication to preserving the planet while delivering the luxury our customers expect,” they said.
“This packaging is a step toward a future where beauty and responsibility coexist seamlessly.”
Recent industry developments further highlight the momentum behind sustainable packaging.
A report by a leading market research firm notes that the global recycled polypropylene market is projected to reach US$ 12.17 billion by 2030, driven by demand in sectors like beauty and personal care.
Additionally, innovations like digital watermarks, as explored in the HolyGrail 2030 initiative, are enhancing recycling efficiency for PP packaging, promising even greater scalability for solutions like CleanStream.
This collaboration between Amcor and Maison Guerlain sets a new benchmark for sustainable luxury, proving that environmental stewardship can enhance, rather than detract from, brand prestige in the beauty sector.
