ITALY – The German packaging machinery manufacturer, MULTIVAC Group, has acquired an 80% majority stake in Italianpack, a leading automatic and semi-automatic packaging machine producer based in Como, Italy.
With this acquisition, Italianpack will become a new Business Unit within the MULTIVAC organization under the continued leadership of Tomaso Petrini, the current CEO of Italianpack.
“This acquisition expands our portfolio in traysealers in the bottom and medium price segments, in fillers, and in peripheral equipment such as denesters and lid depositors,” explained Christian Traumann, Group President and CEO of MULTIVAC.
“These new solutions will enable us to cater to customer needs more effectively in the future.”
Tomaso Petrini expressed enthusiasm about the merger, stating, “Having already collaborated successfully in recent years, we are now eager to utilize our combined strengths better to benefit our customers and expand our business activities as part of the MULTIVAC Group.”
Italianpack, which uses an independent dealer network to reach its customers—primarily small and medium-sized companies—will continue this approach for future sales.
Simultaneously, MULTIVAC subsidiaries will also take over sales within the MULTIVAC portfolio.
“The merger strengthens our current market position and allows us to achieve greater market coverage as a group,” added Traumann.
This acquisition builds on a successful history of collaboration between the two companies. In August 2021, MULTIVAC and Italianpack formed a strategic cooperation agreement, expanding MULTIVAC’s product portfolio to include tray sealers.
In related news, at this year’s FACHPACK, MULTIVAC will showcase sustainable solutions for packing and labelling a diverse range of products under the slogan ‘Multiply Your Value.’
The focus will be on automation, digitalization, and visualization. Among the highlights is a line that produces pharmaceutical combination packs containing syringes, filters, and vials from sustainable mono-film.
At the heart of this line is the RX 4.0 thermoforming packaging machine, designed to meet GMP standards and equipped with a glass safety enclosure for optimal production conditions.
The line features an integrated SCARA robot for precise and automated product loading. Before sealing, a digital printer adds a multi-color design inline, followed by a visual inspection system to check the print image.
A cooled product shield plate protects heat-sensitive items during packaging, and if the machine stops, the shield plate automatically positions itself between the hot sealing plate and the product.
After packaging, a 6-axis robot separates good and reject packs, placing them on different transport conveyors for further processing.
Thanks to its comprehensive sensor system and continuous process monitoring, the RX 4.0 offers high process precision and reproducibility.
RFID-coded dies with permanent status monitoring ensure reliable format changes and correct die positioning on the machine.
The user-friendly HMI on the packaging machine enables convenient and intuitive control of the entire line.
