USA – Water treatment company Pentair has teamed up with Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to launch a plastic-reduction initiative.

This partnership aims to provide travelers with drinking water while reducing the need for single-use plastic water bottles.

Pentair will also become MSP Airport’s Official Water Sponsor, marking the first partnership in MSP’s new strategic partnership program.

The collaboration includes the installation of ten HOPE Hydration HydroStations at MSP Airport.

These state-of-the-art stations, the first at any airport globally, will offer travelers free, chilled, and filtered water, promoting reusable water bottles.

The HydroStations are equipped with Pentair Water Solutions’ Everpure filtration technology, providing a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics for MSP employees and travelers.

Pentair Water Solutions EVP and President Adrian Chiu stated, “Pentair aims to create a better world for people and the planet through smart, sustainable water solutions.

“Our Everpure filtration technology is a leader in the foodservice industry, and we are excited to bring our filtration expertise to MSP in support of their efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices by providing travelers with free, filtered water at the HydroStations.”

In addition to offering filtered water, HydroStations educates travelers about water-related issues and the environmental benefits of reusable bottles, thus contributing to a broader understanding of sustainable practices.

Currently, MSP’s network of 80 water bottle refill stations saves an estimated 600 pounds of single-use plastic bottles daily.

The new HydroStations, incorporating Internet-of-Things technology, will monitor and display real-time impact data, including plastic and carbon emissions savings.

Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) CEO Brian Ryks commented, “Our goal is to make it easy for passengers and our airport community to choose reusable over single-use options.

“We’re excited about this strategic partnership because it shines a brighter spotlight on reducing waste and supporting sustainable practices that go well beyond the airport.”

MSP, operated by the MAC, is the 19th busiest airport in North America regarding passenger traffic.

Pentair wins Environmental and Innovation Category Just Drinks Excellence Awards

Meanwhile, Pentair was recently recognized for its exceptional contributions in the field of beer filtration and CO2 extraction and recovery, earning Environmental and Innovation Category Just Drinks Excellence Awards.

Amidst the challenges posed by CO2 shortages and supply chain issues, Pentair CO2 Solutions, created for breweries and beverage producers, helps by extracting and recovering the by-product CO2 from boilers, jet engines and the fermentation process.

This recovered CO2 is food-grade, making it suitable for beverage carbonation and helping to ensure a self-sustained supply of CO2.
