PulPac teams up with Da Matteo for eco-friendly coffee lids

SWEDEN – Da Matteo, a renowned Swedish coffee chain, is revolutionizing its takeaway coffee experience by integrating PulPac’s Dry Molded Fiber technology into its lids, marking a significant shift away from plastics towards eco-friendly paper solutions.

PulPac’s innovative solution, developed collaboratively with OrganoClick, Solenis, and Sofidel, incorporates barrier ingredients that not only ensure top-notch performance but also prioritize sustainability.

Viktor Börjesson, PulPac’s Chief Operating Officer, sheds light on the lid’s eco-friendly attributes, highlighting OrganoClick’s biobased and biodegradable binder, which not only enhances performance but also utilizes waste streams from the food industry.

The combination of OrganoClick’s binder, specialty tissue from Sofidel Sweden, and Solenis’ proven barrier solution culminates in a robust lid that effectively prevents coffee leakage.

PulPac positions this solution as a viable alternative to reusable containers, aligning perfectly with recent EU legislations on single-use plastics.

Furthermore, Dry Molded Fiber’s manufacturing process significantly reduces water and energy consumption compared to traditional methods, slashing the CO2 footprint by up to 80%.

Börjesson underscores the accessibility of regular pulp and the efficiency of the dry process, making fiber-based alternatives cost-competitive with plastic packaging.

PulPac offers two standardized machine platforms, Modula and Scala, tailored to accommodate varying production volumes and requirements.

These platforms, supplied by turnkey partners, streamline the adoption of Dry Molded Fiber technology by packaging manufacturers.

In addition to coffee lids, PulPac’s Dry Molded Fiber portfolio encompasses innovative solutions like Phone Tray Inserts, addressing the burgeoning demand for eco-friendly packaging in the electronics industry.

The enthusiastic market response to PulPac’s coffee lids underscores their fit, convenience, and environmental friendliness, garnering widespread praise from consumers. Mårten Hellberg, CEO of OrganoClick, commends PulPac’s endeavors in replacing hidden plastics and fostering green transitions.

PulPac’s collaboration with Da Matteo epitomizes the company’s dedication to sustainable packaging solutions, offering a greener alternative not only for the coffee industry but also beyond.

Last December, PulPac introduced the latest addition to its ‘Highway Products’ – the new dry molded fiber phone tray insert.

This insert, now available to producers, underscores the company’s commitment to providing cost-effective, environmentally responsible packaging alternatives.

Sanna Fager, PulPac’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasizes the importance of balancing sustainability with cost-effectiveness, underscoring that the phone tray insert offers manufacturers and brands a competitive solution without compromising their commitment to the planet.

This innovative phone tray insert meets the growing demand for eco-friendly alternatives in the packaging industry, providing a cost-effective product with a reduced environmental footprint compared to conventional plastic or fiber-based alternatives.

The new phone tray insert complements PulPac’s existing portfolio of Highway Products, offering businesses a quick-start solution for their eco-friendly packaging needs.

This portfolio consists of standardized and commercially validated applications ready for production, primarily focusing on food-grade products such as protective lids, coffee cup lids, cold drink lids, cutlery, trays, bowls, and the new phone tray insert.
