UK – Parkside Flexibles, a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, has joined forces with Hoogly, an artisanal tea brand, to introduce an initiative aimed at promoting eco-conscious practices within the UK hospitality sector.

Together, they have crafted the first-ever compostable envelope designed specifically for individually wrapped teabags, tailored to meet the unique needs of hotels across the UK.

This innovative packaging solution combines Parkside’s Park2Nature, a compostable material, with NatureFlex, a metallized compostable film sourced from Futamura.

The result? A laminate that not only ensures the freshness of Hoogly’s teas but also preserves their distinct aromas, thanks to its excellent barrier properties.

Moreover, these envelopes have earned TÜV certification, indicating their ability to biodegrade within 26 weeks in home compost bins and within 12 weeks in industrial composting facilities.

This significant step towards sustainability is in line with Hoogly’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint.

Staci Bye, sales account manager at Parkside, emphasized the company’s dedication to meeting customer needs by delivering packaging that is both sustainable and high-performing.

The compostable envelopes will debut in three distinct designs, each representing a different tea flavor: English Breakfast, Mint, and Green Tea.

Guests at Pride of Britain’s prestigious collection of hotels across the UK will be the first to experience these eco-friendly teabags.

Paul Turner, director at Hoogly, underscored the company’s focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments, expressing gratitude to Parkside for their collaboration and flexibility throughout the project.

In addition to their partnership with Hoogly, Parkside recently introduced Popflex™ lidding film, a recyclable solution tailored for fresh produce packers and growers.

This innovative film, when paired with a PET tray and weld-sealed, remains attached during the recycling process, reducing the risk of PET contamination in recycling streams.

Certified by OPRL for kerbside collection schemes, Popflex™ simplifies recycling for consumers, featuring patented ParkScribe™ technology for easy opening.

Furthermore, it offers breathability with optional macro perforation, extending the shelf life of produce while containing a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content, further solidifying Parkside’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in packaging solutions.
