Quantum Flex Pack makes first US purchase of Fujifilm J Press FP790

The press integrates into flexible packaging workflows and delivers a wider colour gamut, enabling conversion or co-production with analog flexo and rotogravure.

USA – Quantum Flex Pack has become the first company in North America to purchase the FUJIFILM J Press FP790 digital flexible packaging press, marking the sixth global sale of the machine since its launch.

The Illinois-based flexible packaging converter’s acquisition, announced on 24 August 2026, represents a major leap forward in its capabilities and underscores its commitment to investing in advanced flexible packaging technology.

Installation at Quantum’s Rockford plant began earlier this month.

CEO Brian Batease stated that the company is truly excited to be at the forefront of this innovation and looks forward to delivering unmatched quality, efficiency, and value to its customers.

Press Specifications and Performance Features

The J Press FP790 operates without make-ready and changeover stoppages, running at a print speed of 164 feet per minute with a maximum substrate width of 31 inches, regardless of ink colours.

The system uses 1,200 dpi × 1,200 dpi resolution with CMYK inks and can reproduce Pantone colours without requiring spot colour inks, while two white ink channels deliver high white opacity. Additional specifications include water-based inks and an integrated inspection tower for live quality monitoring.

The press can be integrated into existing flexible packaging workflows and can produce wider gamut output, making it possible to convert or work alongside analogue flexo and rotogravure production.

Strategic Value and Market Positioning

Fujifilm said the removal of setup requirements can cut lead times, while the press reduces waste and consumables compared with traditional analogue production.

Yuji Oki, general manager of FUJIFILM North America’s Business Innovation Division, stated that the J Press FP790 was created to meet high market demands, achieving both high-quality print output and adhering to strict regulatory requirements of the packaging business while facilitating a profitable packaging business.

He added that the press was a perfect fit for Quantum Flex Pack’s business model.

The acquisition positions Quantum Flex Pack to meet growing demand for short-run, high-quality flexible packaging while reducing environmental impact through water-based ink technology and reduced waste generation.

As flexible packaging converters face increasing pressure to shorten lead times and offer customisation, digital presses like the FP790 enable converters to compete effectively with traditional analogue production methods.
