Rotocel-Space installs world’s first dual-bar Cartes Gemini line in Italy

ITALY – Cartes has announced the successful installation of the world’s first Gemini line equipped with a dual-bar Jet D-Screen digital embellishment unit at Rotocel-Space, an Italian label converter specializing in premium labels for wine, olive oil, spirits and personal care products.

The investment reinforces Rotocel-Space’s long-standing focus on high-end label production and advanced finishing capabilities.

After introducing digital printing as early as 2010, the company established itself as a pioneer in digital embellishment.

The addition of the Gemini platform with dual-bar Jet D-Screen marks a further step forward in both quality and productivity, enabling the converter to respond more effectively to brand owners seeking distinctive, tactile labels in shorter runs.

Launched in 2019, Cartes’ Jet D-Screen technology has played a key role in reshaping digital label embellishment by allowing converters to deliver high-value finishes with improved margins, even on small, on-demand jobs.

The system enables precise, digitally controlled application of spot varnish and tactile effects without the need for traditional screens or tooling.

Cartes offers its digital embellishment technology in two configurations: a multi-pass version integrated with its GT360 lines and a single-pass version incorporated into the Gemini platform.

In the latest configuration installed at Rotocel-Space, the Gemini line is equipped with two industrial inkjet printing bars, significantly boosting performance and creative flexibility.

Compared with the standard Jet D-Screen setup, the dual-bar configuration doubles spot varnishing speed, enables thicker and more pronounced embossed tactile effects, and allows varnishing and foil application to be completed in a single pass.

This translates into higher throughput, reduced make-ready times and more consistent quality, key advantages for converters operating in premium, time-sensitive market segments.

The specific Gemini configuration selected by Rotocel-Space includes a flexo varnishing station, the dual-bar Jet D-Screen digital embellishment module and a semi-rotary die-cutting unit.

Together, these capabilities provide a highly integrated production workflow designed to meet demanding just-in-time requirements while maintaining the visual and tactile quality expected by luxury and premium brands.
