GERMANY – Sensoplast has acquired Forewood’s assets, expanding its closure portfolio with wood and plant-fiber technologies that offer stability and barrier protection for dietary supplement, food and cosmetic packaging.

The acquisition, completed as an asset deal, brings Forewood’s fiber-based closure solutions into Sensoplast’s existing range of plastic, elastomer and glass closing systems. The closure solutions, which have been in use for several years in branded consumer goods, are free from conventional plastics and based on wood and plant fibers.

Forewood’s Plant-Based Technology Expands Sensoplast’s Sustainable Packaging Portfolio

The Forewood material is a combination of wood fibers and plant-based binders that can be processed using standard injection molding equipment.

The closures offer high stability, toughness and barrier properties while providing an aesthetically distinctive natural appearance.

Sensoplast stated that the acquisition adds a key building block for sustainable packaging concepts to its existing range, with the deal enabling customers to access nature-based packaging components directly.

The company also noted that the acquisition offers a wide range of customized development and adaptation options to meet specific customer requirements.

Forewood previously earned the PEFC Special Sustainability Award at the German Packaging Award for its innovative use of wood fibers from certified forests.

The acquisition demonstrates Sensoplast’s commitment to expanding its sustainable product offerings in response to growing market demand for renewable packaging solutions across Europe.

Strategic Integration of Fiber-Based Closures into Premium Packaging Applications

The acquisition aligns with growing demand for sustainable closure solutions across dietary supplements, food and cosmetics, where regulatory and market pressures increasingly require the reduction of fossil-based materials.

Sensoplast’s expertise in high-quality primary packaging for sealing and dispensing applications will now include Forewood’s bio-based technology platform.

The closure solutions can be integrated with glass, paperboard and other packaging substrates, supporting brands in developing fully recyclable or biodegradable packaging systems.

By expanding its portfolio through this acquisition, Sensoplast positions itself to serve customers seeking to transition away from conventional plastic closures while maintaining technical performance and design flexibility.

The fiber-based closures also offer improved end-of-life options, contributing to circular economy objectives by enabling easier sorting and recycling compared to multi-material alternatives.
