Sidel to unveil EvoBLOW Laser technology at Drinktec 2025

The new laser technology enables the creation of lighter and stronger containers.

GERMANY – Sidel will debut its innovative EvoBLOW Laser technology at Drinktec 2025, held from September 15 to 19 at the Munich Trade Fair in Germany. 

This advancement sets a new benchmark for food and beverage packaging, particularly in lightweighting PET and recycled PET (rPET) containers. 

According to industry reports, the technology addresses the growing demand for sustainable packaging by reducing material use while maintaining bottle strength.

The EvoBLOW Laser employs up to 36 precise heating lines, a significant leap from the eight broad zones used in traditional halogen systems. 

This precision enables the creation of lighter yet stronger containers, even for premium bottles.

Invisible “power rings” and thicker, undetectable material bands enhance bottle durability and aesthetics while minimizing material consumption. 

These rings replace conventional geometrical ribs, offering greater design flexibility and enabling lightweighting in challenging areas, such as just below the bottle’s neck. 

Sidel’s President and CEO, Pietro Cassani, stated, “Sidel has led blowing technology for over 45 years. At Drinktec, we unveil the world’s first industrialized laser-powered solution, a game-changer.”

Unlike halogen systems, the EvoBLOW Laser operates consistently regardless of external conditions, requiring only one process setting per heating line to ensure precise thermal profiles for every preform. 

Its cold-start capability eliminates warm-up or cool-down periods, reducing downtime during production transitions. 

The technology also features live speed modulation, allowing real-time adjustments to line conditions, which boosts efficiency. 

An intuitive “touch and shape” interface simplifies adjustments, while the absence of ventilation fans and filters, combined with durable laser diodes, reduces maintenance costs.

Sidel’s partnership with Refresco, a leading beverage solution provider, has validated the technology through rigorous field testing. 

Refresco’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, Coert Michielsen, noted that laser oven technology could become the industry standard, marking a shift from decades of halogen reliance. 

The system supports increased rPET use due to its adaptability to material variations and reduces preform waste by up to 50%, enhancing sustainability.

Recent updates from the packaging sector indicate growing interest in laser-based solutions.

A report by a trade journal highlighted similar advancements at FachPack 2025, where companies showcased laser technologies for precision cutting and sealing, signaling a broader industry trend toward sustainable, efficient packaging methods. 

Sidel’s EvoBLOW Laser, priced competitively for industrial adoption, is poised to meet these demands, offering producers a way to cut costs while achieving environmental goals.
