Silgan Dispensing revolutionizes perfume industry with sustainable refillable option

USA – Silgan Dispensing, a supplier of highly engineered triggers, pumps, sprayers and dispensing closure solutions, has announced the launch of a new sustainably designed, all-plastic refillable fragrance solution called Replay.

Replay was launched during the international exhibition for luxury packaging, Luxe Pack Monaco 2023, which took place from October 2nd to October 4th.

The new refill system has been developed using the company’s patented LifeCycle technology.

Silgan stated that its LifeCycle technology is essentially a plastic spring used to improve recyclability without impacting the performance of the products.

Compared with traditional dispensers, LifeCycle helps remove non-recyclable metals and materials, further ensuring that the dispensers are constructed almost entirely from a single polyolefin, the company added.

Replay can reportedly be used to address a wide range of bottlenecks and is made with less plastic, resulting in a weight reduction of approximately 33%.

Silgan says that Replay addresses several significant gaps in the consumer experience, as more individuals are seeking practical and sustainable products.

According to the company, there is dissatisfaction with the current refill experience. Existing refill solutions, which have been limited to specific regions and brands, are often criticized for being messy and challenging to handle at home.

Silgan reports that qualitative testing of Replay’s consumer experience showed it to be “easy to use, clean and quick, with no concerns of spillages and waste.”

Silgan Fragrance’s Global Marketing Director, Sandy Gregory, stated, “Introducing Replay to the market is yet another demonstration of Silgan Dispensing’s expertise in creating and providing high-quality solutions that effectively address our clients’ most pressing goals.

“Replay presents an opportunity for brand owners to offer fragrance products with luxurious, beautiful packaging, all while staying true to their sustainability goals and meeting the sustainability preferences of their customers.”

According to reports, participants in the focus group described Replay as “intuitive, playful, and instinctive.” They also mentioned that it feels clean because there is no residue left on their fingers.

Matching convenience with sustainability has remained elusive in the luxury fragrance market, despite consumer demand for such products.

According to the Fragrance Refill Survey (2023) conducted by Silgan Dispensing, two-thirds of consumers in France, the United States, and China recycle their fragrance packaging.

This is more pronounced in Brazil, where three out of four consumers recycle fragrance packaging. Furthermore, 80% of consumers commonly repurchase their favourite fragrance, which typically lasts between three and nine months, depending on usage and bottle size.

The new system is available with or without a cap and can be adapted to multiple sizes, including samplers, minis, travel packs, and retail packs. It is also compliant with the screw-neck international norms SNI 15 and SNI 17.

Last year, in September, Silgan launched two new dispensers to enhance product sustainability and performance.
