MOROCCO – French waste management company SUEZ and the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation, and Research (MAScIR) have embarked on a collaborative research and development (R&D) protocol focused on sustainable waste management.

This partnership aims to drive innovation in the waste sector by leveraging the combined expertise of both entities to develop sustainable, circular solutions for waste treatment and valorization, ultimately transforming waste into valuable products or energy in a process known as “valorization.”

Specifically, the collaboration between SUEZ and MAScIR, affiliated with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), seeks to pioneer innovative circular solutions for waste treatment and valorization.

Key areas of focus include the valorization of agricultural organic waste, recycling and valorization of industrial waste, and the development of low-carbon footprint solutions.

Not only does this initiative address the pressing need for climate change adaptation, but it also aligns with SUEZ’s strategy of open innovation, extending its reach to one of the continent’s most dynamic and innovative countries.

Bringing its extensive expertise to the partnership, SUEZ is a global leader in waste management with a wealth of knowledge, including 1,100 experts worldwide, nearly 1,700 patents, and 10 research and excellence centers.

On the other hand, MAScIR, affiliated with UM6P, is a highly regarded research center known for its applied research projects.

With over 200 researchers and engineers specializing in biotechnology, materials, and microelectronics, MAScIR brings valuable insights and capabilities to the collaboration.

The signing of this agreement has been met with enthusiasm from both parties. Sabrina Soussan, CEO of SUEZ Environment, highlighted the partnership’s pivotal role in supporting Morocco’s ecological transition ambitions, underscoring the shared commitment to environmental preservation.

Hicham El Habti, president of both UM6P and MAScIR, emphasized the collaboration’s dedication to advancing research and addressing climate change challenges for a sustainable future.

In essence, this partnership underscores the shared commitment of SUEZ and MAScIR to environmental preservation through the promotion of circular, innovative solutions tailored to Morocco’s specific needs.

By transforming waste challenges into sustainable opportunities and valuing natural resources while ensuring efficient water management, the collaboration aims to contribute significantly to environmental conservation and sustainable development in Morocco and beyond.
