USA – Chlorophyll Water®, a leading bottled water brand in the United States, has made a major move by switching to bottles made entirely from 100% recycled plastic (rPET) using CleanFlake technology.
These remarkable 100% rPET bottles are meticulously crafted from food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
The plastic used in this process adheres to the approved technologies sanctioned by both the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for food-grade recycled materials.
This innovative approach repurposes plastic waste into new PET bottles, thereby significantly reducing the demand for virgin plastic in the production of PET bottles.
The transition to rPET not only helps reduce plastic waste but also has the potential to significantly decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during the manufacturing process.
Research has shown that rPET can lead to an impressive up to 79% reduction in carbon emissions when compared to the production of new PET material.
This represents a significant step towards a more environmentally sustainable approach to packaging.
Complementing their commitment to using 100% recycled plastic bottles, Chlorophyll Water® has chosen Avery Dennison’s CleanFlake label technology as their labeling solution. This technology is designed to improve the recovery of high-quality, food-grade PET during the recycling process.
CleanFlake technology is based on a water-based adhesive technology that cleanly separates from PET during the caustic wash phase of recycling.
This process leaves no adhesive residue on the plastic, ensuring that it can be processed into pristine, high-quality recycled PET flakes. By adopting CleanFlake technology, Chlorophyll Water® ensures that its labels detach cleanly during recycling, ultimately increasing the yield of pure PET flakes.
Chlorophyll Water® has recently achieved a milestone by becoming the first bottled water brand in the United States to attain Clean Label Project Certification.
This honor has been granted following independent third-party testing, which assessed over 90 potential industrial environmental contaminants.
It serves as a testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to a meticulous purification process, the use of high-quality ingredients, and their sourcing of mountain spring water.
The Clean Label Project, a national nonprofit organization, is on a mission to promote truth and transparency in consumer product labeling and safety matters.
This includes addressing issues related to heavy metals, pesticide residues, plasticizers, and other concerning chemicals. Additionally, we advocate for transparency in product labeling.
Chlorophyll Water’s achievement of Clean Label Project Certification underscores its dedication to providing consumers with products of the highest quality and safety standards.
It also aligns with their vision to create a sustainable and responsible brand that promotes transparency and excellence in the bottled water industry.
