Prevas Finland will develop efficient control systems to optimize the facility’s operations.

FINLAND – Circular economy company Syklo has selected Prevas Finland as its electrical, instrumentation, and control (EIC) partner for a new plastic recycling facility in Hyvinkaa, Finland.
The plant, set to begin operations in early 2026, aims to increase Finland’s plastic recycling capacity by 50% through advanced processing technologies that transform waste into valuable resources.
According to Juha Ritala, president of Prevas Finland, “We’re truly proud of the trust Syklo has placed in us. This collaboration marks an exciting step in the green transition and the start of a long-term partnership.”
The systems are expected to ensure reliable and future-proof operations, supporting the plant’s goal of processing 50,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually.
In February 2025, Syklo announced an investment of US$73.3 million to US$83.8 million to establish a circular economy hub in Hyvinkaa.
The facility will combine plastic recycling with biocomposite production, targeting carbon neutrality and lower energy use.
Syklo’s partnership with Scottish firm Impact Recycling brings innovative technologies to the project, including a patented method for separating black plastics, a persistent challenge in the recycling industry.
This technology enables the plant to process mixed plastic waste with a high yield, producing recycled plastic pellets and biocomposites for industries aiming to reduce carbon emissions.
A recent update indicates that Syklo is advancing the project in phases, with earthworks already underway as of August 2025.
The company is finalizing detailed designs and conducting competitive tendering for construction and equipment, ensuring the project stays on track for its 2026 launch.
The facility is also expected to save up to US$26.2 million annually for Finland’s economy by reducing reliance on the EU Plastic Tax, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions by up to 160,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year if all processed plastic is diverted from incineration.
Syklo’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand its circular economy solutions across the Nordic region, the Baltics, and Europe.
By integrating advanced recycling and biocomposite production, the Hyvinkaa plant aims to set a new standard for sustainable material recovery, offering high-quality recycled products to industries worldwide.
