Toyo Ink to expand liquid ink capacity in Gujarat as India’s packaging demand surges

The company attributes its latest investment to India’s expanding middle class, evolving dietary habits, and the rising consumption of packaged goods.

INDIA – Toyo Ink India has unveiled plans to expand liquid ink production at its Gujarat plant by approximately 1.5 times, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the country’s rapidly growing packaging market.

The expanded operations are expected to begin in 2028, positioning the company for stronger domestic and regional growth.

A member of the Artience Group, Toyo Ink attributes its latest investment to India’s expanding middle class, evolving dietary habits, and the rising consumption of packaged goods.

These factors have significantly boosted demand for high-performance inks, placing the company’s Gujarat facility, which began operations in 2021, near full capacity.

“This expansion marks a pivotal step in our journey to lead India’s liquid ink market,” said Shekhar Barua, head of the liquid ink and plastic colorant business units at Toyo Ink India.

“By scaling up capacity and strengthening our sustainable portfolio, we are committed to delivering innovative solutions that meet evolving customer needs. Our Gujarat plant will not only serve India but also position us as a regional export hub for future growth.”

Toyo Ink’s presence in India has grown steadily over the past decade. The company first launched liquid ink operations in 2011 as an import business and transitioned to local manufacturing with the establishment of its Delhi plant in 2013.

Since then, it has expanded its market share by introducing formulations tailored to Indian requirements, including solutions for flexible packaging, labels, and food applications.

As part of that initiative, Toyo Ink is constructing a new production facility on-site, expected to begin operations in April 2026.

Once completed, the new plant will boost the site’s adhesive output by 3.5 times, enabling the company to meet growing demand from sectors such as automotive interiors, home appliances, and labels.

Toyo Ink began importing adhesives from Japan in 2014 to serve the Indian automotive sector, later broadening applications across other industries.

With demand rising sharply, the company launched local adhesive production in December 2021 at Gujarat, strengthening supply reliability and response times.

As India’s packaging and manufacturing sectors continue to expand, Toyo Ink’s dual investment in inks and adhesives underscores its strategy to build a strong, future-ready production base.

The Gujarat site is set to become a key hub for both domestic supply and regional exports, supporting the company’s long-term vision for sustainable and scalable growth.
