Epson unveils new label boost software and ColorWorks CW-D3800 printer for on-demand packaging labels

The software supports dynamic customisation based on date, location or purchase history, enabling targeted messaging without complex pre-printing.

USA – Epson America has launched the ColorWorks CW-D3800 desktop colour label printer alongside new Label Boost software, offering businesses an affordable on-demand solution for printing custom packaging labels, visitor badges and shipping labels.

The CW-D3800, available from July 2026, is designed for low-volume colour printing applications including visitor management badges, custom product labels, shelf tags, food labels and packaging labels.

The printer uses Epson’s PrecisionCore permanent printhead technology—engineered to last the printer’s lifetime, and dye-based ink to produce labels at resolutions up to 600 dpi x 1200 dpi. It supports roll and fanfold media from 1 to 4.25 inches wide, with optional Wi-Fi connectivity for mobile printing.

Alongside the hardware, Epson introduced the new Label Boost software suite, comprising three no-cost tools: Label Boost Designer for creating labels with a drag-and-drop interface using templates; Label Boost Concierge for visitor check-in and badge printing; and Label Boost Shipper for designing full-colour shipping and packaging labels with QR codes, images and promotional elements.

New Label Boost Software Turns Packaging Labels into Branding Opportunities

Label Boost Shipper intercepts standard print jobs and customises labels by adding promotional content directly to the primary packaging label.

This eliminates the need for secondary inserts or pre-printed label stock, reducing material costs while turning shipping labels into marketing real estate.

Businesses can incorporate colour-coded handling instructions to improve shipping accuracy, or use the label space to promote offers and QR codes.

The software supports dynamic customisation based on date, location or purchase history, enabling targeted messaging without complex pre-printing.

Label Boost Designer offers a no-cost entry point for businesses starting in-house colour labelling, with templates for shelf tags, fresh food labels and visitor badges.

The European model, CW-D3800e, retails at approximately €1,500 (US$1,620) plus VAT.

CW-D3800 Printer Targets Demand for Affordable Colour Packaging Labels

Epson product manager Andrew Kim stated that an affordable, low-volume, on-demand colour label printer solves real constraints for businesses, allowing them to remain adaptable and cost-conscious while presenting a professional brand.

He noted increasing demand for visitor management solutions across education, healthcare, corporate and government sectors, with colour badges providing fast visual recognition for improved access control and security response.

The CW-D3800 series features a compact footprint, automatic nozzle verification technology and individual 50ml CMYK dye ink cartridges.

The printer complements Epson’s existing ColorWorks series, bridging the gap between desktop office printing and industrial label production for short-run, in-house colour labelling for packaging applications.
