Alternicq partners with Pulpex to bring pulp fibre bottles to India

Partners to assess viability, buyers, retail segments, compliance, production infrastructure, Pulpex fibre containers + Alternicq plants/clients/tech.

INDIA – Alternicq has entered an exclusive agreement with Pulpex to introduce paper-based bottle manufacturing to India, incorporating renewable material capabilities into its production operations and expanding its sustainable packaging catalogue.

The companies will examine commercial viability, buyer interest, key retail segments, compliance standards and the technical infrastructure required for domestic production.

The collaboration combines Pulpex’s fibre container systems with Alternicq’s manufacturing plants, client base and technical resources.

The agreement aligns with Alternicq’s planned transition from a scale-led packaging supplier to a global one-stop solutions partner managing design, manufacturing and distribution across different formats, materials and regions.

Barrier Spray Removes Separation Step in Recycling

The resulting containers meet food-grade criteria and are manufactured using sustainably managed wood pulp.

The units are structured for disposal through standard domestic paper and cardboard recycling streams, as the internal spray-applied barrier does not require separation before reprocessing.

That characteristic distinguishes the format from conventional barrier packaging, where plastic linings or coatings must be separated from fibre before reprocessing, a step many recycling facilities cannot perform economically.

The containers can be processed on conventional filling lines and accommodate direct exterior printing across fast-moving consumer goods segments.

Leadership Cites One-Stop Packaging Ambitions

Thimmaiah, managing director and chief executive of Alternicq, said the company was building a one-stop packaging solutions business of global scale, investing in how it went to market, strengthening capabilities from design to delivery and partnering with technology innovators to bring the best solutions to customers.

He added that by integrating innovative, sustainable materials and advanced packaging technologies into its rigid plastic packaging portfolio, the company was expanding its capabilities to meet evolving customer needs across fast-moving consumer goods segments.

Pulpex Frames Alternicq as Manufacturing Partner

Sandy Westwater, chief executive of Pulpex, said Alternicq was exactly the manufacturing partner the technology needed.

Westwater noted that the announcement brought together a United Kingdom technology platform that had moved from innovation to industrial reality and India’s leading packaging manufacturer, with the capability, customers and ambition to deliver renewable packaging at scale.

For India’s packaging sector, fibre bottle technology offers a route to reduce plastic content in beverage and liquid consumer goods applications while remaining compatible with existing paper recovery infrastructure, provided domestic production economics and filling line integration can be validated during the assessment phase.
